Board Certified Dermatologist Dr. shared her top tips for reversing the signs of aging with The US Sun.

Previously, she debunked four common skincare myths, including one that JLo herself believes.

NO SWEET TOOTH

His first free method was to decrease his intake of sugar and other refined carbohydrates.

Dr. King said that nearly eliminating both will “slow down skin aging.”

“Excess sugar molecules attach to collagen and elastin through a process called glycation, resulting in AGEs, or advanced glycation end products,” she explained.

The expert added that these cross-linked AGE proteins are proven to be “directly related to the loss of skin elasticity and firmness”.

Eating too much sugar causes collagen and elastin fibers to lose strength and flexibility, contributing to skin aging.

MODERN MOVEMENT

Dr. King encouraged people to expand their fitness regimen.

“Studies have shown that exercise not only keeps skin looking younger, but can also reverse skin aging in people who start exercising later in life,” she explained.

SMART SUN

Dr. King challenged readers to “commit to smart daily sun behavior” because “much of the sun damage that accumulates on our skin is the result of accidental daily sun exposure.”

Avoid peak UV hours, seek shade and wear UV-protective clothing.

Some examples she offered were a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses with UV protection, and topical SPF for all exposed areas.

Dr. King discussed how, in a Australian studymedical professionals tracked the skin of people who used sunscreen daily, regardless of the weather.

They then compared this to the skin of people who only used sunscreen on sunny days and thought they would spend a lot of time outside.

At the end of the experiment, it was revealed that the skin of people who used sunscreen every day aged significantly better.

BAD BLUE LIGHT

Dr. King also emphasized the importance of protecting your skin from blue light as much as possible, especially in a time when everyone is in front of a screen at least once a day.

“We learned that blue light can not only affect our sleep and harm our eyes, but it can also cause discoloration and aging of our skin, she explained.

LOWER THE STRESS

Next, she recommended finding ways to reduce stress in your life.

“Stress has definitely increased for most of us over the past year and stress has a huge impact on our health,” she said.

She added that it’s important to minimize stress because studies show that stress can contribute to the development of wrinkles.

King explained that cortisol, the “primary stress hormone,” can break down collagen in your skin.

“The higher the stress level, the more cortisol is produced, and over time, the skin’s ability to rebuild collagen and elastin will decrease,” he added.

  • Keep your skin hydrated internally by drinking water and externally with moisturizer.
  • Always use sunscreen, even if you are not in direct sunlight.
  • Use Vitamin C to brighten your skin and don’t forget to apply it to your neck.

SLEEP SOLUTION

One of the most important pieces of advice Dr. King suggested was getting enough sleep, which she called “stress on the body.”

“Not enough sleep has been shown to negatively affect the appearance of your skin,” she said.

So make sure you fall asleep at a decent time so you can wake up refreshed and rejuvenated during the day.
