Amber Olson Rourke is co-founder and president of Neorabrand specializing in skin, hair and well-being products.

Previously, she shared tips for combating sensitive skin and common myths with The US Sun.

She recommended several affordable items that should be essentials in anyone’s beauty routine.

BEST BUYS

“I think the best anti-aging products you can have are a good cleanser, a good vitamin C serum, and a broad-spectrum SPF,” she said.

PROPER CLEANING

Rourke explained that as we age, the skin’s ability to shed dead cells and regenerate new ones decreases.

According to the expert, regular cleansing promotes cell renewal and reveals fresher skin underneath.

“Keeping your skin clean helps prevent premature aging caused by pollution and free radicals,” he added.

BENEFITS OF VITAMIN C

Rourke said vitamin C is a useful staple in any skin care line because it works to “correct damage” that has already been done.

She added that it helps prevent future damage by “scavenging free radicals,” which contribute to breaking down collagen in the skin.

Too many free radicals can cause wrinkles, dark spots, fine lines and saggy, saggy skin, according to experts at Curel.

“It can also reduce the appearance of dark spots by blocking pigment production in the skin,” she added.

SPF FEELING

Lastly, when it comes to sunscreen, Rourke said broad-spectrum sunscreen works best because it protects from both UVB and UVA rays.

UVB and UVA rays cause sunburn and contribute to skin cancer.

“Evidence shows that daily use of sunscreen also helps slow the skin’s aging process,” she explained.

According to a Scripps Health Study“People who use broad-spectrum sunscreen daily experience 24% less skin aging than those who use sunscreen only intermittently.”

What do SPF numbers mean?

According to experts at The Skin Cancer Foundation, SPF Number tells you how long the sun’s UV radiation would take to turn your skin red.

This is only when using the product according to its instructions.

Then compare it to the amount of time exposed to the sun without sunscreen.

For example, if you wore SPF 30, it would take 30 times longer to burn than if you didn’t use sunscreen.

DERMA do it yourself

Rourke suggested some DIY and free methods for youthful skin.

She said there was “nothing better” for your skin than sleeping and drinking plenty of water.

HYDRATION IS KEY

“Drinking water can help keep your skin cells plump, which helps reduce wrinkles and signs of aging,” she explained.

She added that it also encourages “healthy circulation,” which helps keep skin looking bright and nourished.

Drinking adequate amounts of water also protects your skin from the harmful effects of free radicals that can cause premature aging.

SLEEP NEEDS

Additionally, Rourke called the term “Beauty Sleep” more than just “jargon.”

Adequate sleep can help reduce wrinkles, firm the skin and improve skin tone.

“While we sleep, our body, brain and skin regenerate and rejuvenate; blood flow increases to produce more collagen and growth hormones,” Rourke explained.

Celebrity dermatologist Dr. Ava Shamban also shared helpful sleep and skin-boosting tricks with The US Sun.
