A WOMAN nearly lost her upper lip after a free filler competition went horribly wrong.
Marguerite Cummings was delighted when she won a social media prize draw and received a free procedure.
But instead of pouting, the 26-year-old was left with a blistered and oozing wound.
“I never win anything, so I was super excited to get the giveaway,” Marguerite told What’sTheJam.
“Then one morning I woke up and immediately knew something was wrong.
“I ended up telling myself that if I had waited until another day to get tested, I would have lost my upper lip.”
Marguerite, a direct support professional from Connecticut, said that on the day of the procedure everything seemed “normal.”
“They numbed me and started making me fat,” she recalled.
“It was only during the last injection that I felt a twinge, but other than that, everything was fine.
“I bruised easily, so I didn’t think anything of the immediate bruises.”

The next day, Marguerite’s lips were even more swollen.
“I was embarrassed to be in public, but I didn’t think anything of it other than that this was the healing process,” she said.
“Then I woke up again and immediately knew something was wrong.
“I had a huge hole next to my nose, which I later discovered was gravity and oxygen trying to find a way out and my nose was covered in pus.
“My upper lip was gray.
“I sent a photo to my cousin, who is a dermatology assistant, and he said, ‘Go to the emergency room immediately.’”
Marguerite claims doctors initially told her there was nothing they could do other than prescribe antibiotics.
“By the grace of God, the nurse who was on duty was an aesthetic nurse and worked in dermatology,” she said.
“She looked at me and said I wasn’t going home. She personally called my doctor.
“He came back from vacation and he and his colleague put two water bottles full of solvent on my lip.”
Marguerite described the week that followed as “hell”.
“I was in pure agony,” she said.
“There was also a lot of blood. I was in a lot of pain.”
Since receiving fillers in October 2022, Marguerite has had two rounds of lasers to help with healing.
She hasn’t had any other cosmetic work done — and doesn’t plan to have any.
When she shared her experience on TikTok, she was inundated with comments from horrified viewers. The video has been watched more than 24,300 times.
In the video, Marguerite can be seen speaking to the camera while showing off the damage done to her lips.
The right side of the upper lip is blistered, black and peeling.
“Eww! Poor thing! I’m glad you’re better!” one viewer commented.
“Sending love,” wrote another.
“I’m so sorry this happened to you Marguerite, feel better soon!” a third joined the conversation.
“Hi, I’m seeing this almost years later, haha, but I was wondering, did you take any medication other than the solvent?” a spectator asked.
Marguerite replied no.
“No! They took about 10 bottles of water with the soluble liquid and then gave me prescription painkillers for the pain,” she said.
