If not done correctly, bright orange streaks and spots can be left on the underside of the hands.

But one beauty fan has found a solution that will help smooth out the fake tan evenly on her hand.

Filming her tanning routine, she started by taking off her glove which showed a clear difference in color – as she had clearly already tanned her arms before this.

She then takes the tanning moose and squirts a generous amount of tanning moose onto her hand before rubbing it with her other hand.

The beauty fan said: “Basically, apply that fake tan like you would moisturizer and don’t forget your knuckles.”

She then showed what her palm looked like, which looked brown and lumpy.

The fake liker said, “We don’t want that to happen.”

She then takes a makeup brush and squirts toothpaste all over it, before rubbing it between her palms.

The tanner said: “As you can see, it’s already coming out of there.”

Using a wet towel, she dabs and rubs off the excess tan while also wiping her nails.

She then shows a clear difference in both hands – one not having used the toothpaste trick and the other having used the trick.

O video, which was shared on TikTok, has since gone viral, with over 55,000 people liking it and over 1,200 people rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts.

“What a brilliant tip,” praised one user.

Another added: “Thank you so much!”

However, not everyone was impressed with the trick.

One wrote: “That’s a LOT of effort.”

Another added: “This is why I use gradual tanners because they look so natural.”

Others gave some suggestions and tips on how to perfect your fake tan look.

One wrote: “I only use a brush and only paint the front, why waste the self-tanner? It works for me.”

The biggest beauty mistakes

Fabulous beauty editor Tara Ledden shared the do’s and don’ts when it comes to beauty.

“No matter how much time and money you spend on your beauty routine, if you don’t get the basics right, the rest will be wasted.

“There aren’t many non-negotiables, but these are the biggest beauty mistakes that sabotage your regimen.”

  • Do not use SPF: Sun damage is the main cause of premature skin aging, so if you want to keep your skin looking plump and glowing, sun cream is vital.
  • Using Expired Products: At best, they are ineffective and don’t deliver the results they promise; at worst, they cause irritation and infection. The shelf life of beauty products is different – for example, mascara usually lasts 3 to 6 months, while lipstick can last 9 to 18 months. Check the ‘POA’ symbol on the packaging (it looks like a bottle and will have a number within how many months it is safe once opened. If you don’t remember when you opened the product, throw it away and start over, marking the month and the year with permanent marker on the packaging.
  • Not knowing your tones: If you are using makeup in the wrong tones, it will never look natural no matter how much you blend! An easy trick to find out if you have cool, warm or neutral undertones is to check the veins on your wrist – if they look blue you have cool undertones, if they look green you have warm undertones and if they are a mix you have neutral.
  • Bypassing the thermal protector: It may seem unnecessary, but just like sun damage to your skin, excess heat is the most common cause of hair damage. So if you want shiny, healthy hair, or are trying to grow it longer, using a heat protection product is key.
  • Not washing your face before going to bed: It’s that simple: if you don’t wash your face before going to sleep, everything that remains on your skin during the day stays there for longer, clogging the pores and drying out the surface. Any skin care applied on top won’t be effective with a layer of dirt underneath, and you’ll probably end up with dirty pillows too – yuck!

“I just use the excess mitt when available and tan it all,” said another.

“Just place it on the top of each hand with a glove.

“Then use regular lotion on your hands. This will prevent your knuckles from getting too dark,” suggested another.
