IT’S no secret that beauty products can sometimes cost a small fortune, so when one woman discovered her monthly expenses had risen to £12,025, she knew exactly what to cut.
Jess Miller confessed she shelled out at least £40 a month on Olaplex for her long locks and knew she needed to make a change if she wanted to save money.
Her search for a replacement led her to take a chance on a hair care brand owned by none other than B&M.
Plex System shampoo and conditioner cost just £2.49 each, which is a lot cheaper than Olaplex, which normally retails for around £23 a bottle – ouch!
Jess also managed to score a hair mask from the cheap brand, totaling just £7.47.
“It’s a huge savings if I like these products,” the hair fan said in a viral TikTok she shared recently.
So far, Jess said she’s only used the products twice, but they leave her hair looking great.
While she confessed that she doesn’t know if they’ll be as good in the long run as her trusty Olaplex, things were looking pretty positive.
The Plex System – Bond Cleansing Shampoo even has a lush coconut scent, which Jess said she loves.
That said, the beauty fan revealed that she ends up using a little more product when washing her locks, as the product “doesn’t lather as much as Olaplex.”
In the conditioner, and after a difficult start, the idiot also turned out to be a total winner.
Jess explained that when applying the product to damp hair, it felt a little “sticky” at first, but after rinsing and drying the locks they felt amazing.
If you’re looking for a deeper condition, the hair mask was the star of the show.
“If you’re thinking about switching from Olaplex to this, I would definitely buy the hair mask because it makes a huge difference,” she said.
Overall, the beauty lover admitted that she’s a big fan of the switch, and not just because of how much money it’s saving her.
She asked her followers to send her any other cheap hair products they loved so she could try them too, and many agreed that B&M’s dupes are great.
“I used this and the shampoo is beautiful and lasted a long time.
“I didn’t use the conditioner much, but the hair mask and serum are also very good,” one of them commented on the post.
“The Aldi dupes are really good, about £4 each, switched them months ago,” a second added.
“Pantene Bone Repair is also very good,” said another.
But not everyone was convinced that the cheaper alternatives would work in the long term.
“I used these, they were good, but after a while it dries out your hair a lot,” warned one person.
And someone else wrote: “As a hairdresser, the cheaper the hair products, the cheaper the ingredients and quality, some build up and contain silicone.”
“Things I couldn’t trade and Olaplex is one of them, I’ve always wondered what idiots are like,” someone mused.
