Luke Sawyer is the director of Taylor Taylor London Portobello Salon and has over 25 years of hair care knowledge.

Speaking to The US Sun, he revealed that they use the Davines Energizing range for clients’ fragile and thinning hair.

He said it “gently cleanses” hair and is not harsh on the scalp compared to chemical-heavy products.

However, there are also home remedies that can contribute to beautiful hair.

“Over the years, I have worked with many clients who have experienced hair loss and they always come back feeling more positive after receiving and following the right advice,” he said.

“There is no miracle cure, but there is always room for improvement.”

YARN SAVIOR

Sawyer said damaged hair can benefit from health-boosting treatments and gentle brushing.

He shared his highly recommended DIY remedy.

“Rubbing rosemary into the scalp can stimulate growth,” he said.

“Another great remedy is a spoonful of Moringa powder mixed with cloves and hibiscus leaves.

“Boil in water, leave in the fridge overnight, decant into a spray bottle, spray generously onto damp hair and massage into the scalp.”

STYLE PROTECTORS

Sawyer said there is no specific hairstyle that can reduce thinning, but it is possible to make locks appear fuller.

“Don’t keep your hair long, cut it as long as possible so it looks fuller, so it could be a short haircut overall or maybe a bob length cut,” he said.

“Opting for a stronger fringe and moving the parting harms thinning.

“Cutting your hair will certainly make it look like it is growing back and healthier looking.”

HAIR HEROES

Sawyer said smoking is among the lifestyle factors that increase the risk of hair loss.

He revealed that the damage caused by smoking to hair follicles and cells makes it easier to identify people who smoke regularly.

What causes hair loss?

Luke Sawyer is the director of Taylor Taylor London Portobello Salon.

He revealed to The US Sun the common causes of hair loss.

“There are several reasons for hair loss in women, most often related to hormones and can occur postpartum, during perimenopause and, most commonly, menopause,” he said.

“It can be temporary or permanent.

“As well as being affected by hormones, it can be caused by stress, iron deficiency or anemia, medical conditions or a normal heredity of aging – this is more common in both men and women. Pattern hair loss, just like the male pattern is an inherited condition.”

In addition to not smoking, he warned that people should maintain a healthy diet for optimal hair health.

“Lots of vitamin B and D from whole grains, nuts, meat, liver, chicken, fish, eggs, dairy, fruits, vegetables,” he said.

“There are not enough essential fats, omega-3 and omega-6, which show up as dry, itchy scalp and skin, so also have a diet rich in fish, nuts, flaxseed and whole grains.

“Magnesium is a great supplement, it plays a vital role in new hair growth and I tell all my clients over the age of 35 to start thinking about a collagen supplement.”

Sawyer said collagen supplements may also be beneficial for menopausal hair loss.

The time it takes for blockages to grow varies.

“For example, menopausal hair loss is not always permanent, but female pattern hair loss is genetic, so it is unlikely to grow back,” Sawyer said.

“In this case, it is important to take care of your hair, treat it with care and have a healthy lifestyle to ensure your hair is in the best condition possible.”
