A SKINCARE expert has debunked a recent beauty trend that isn’t worth hyping or buying into.
She said that buying skin care products is a waste of money and offered best anti-aging remedies for youthful skin.
Co-founder of Absolute Collagen, Darcy Laceby (@absolutecollagen) offered a massive warning about a popular beauty purchase.
On a TikTok Videoshe explained why collagen can’t be absorbed with sheet masks and why it’s not an essential part of your cosmetics collection.
She also shared why it’s not the “miracle cure” you might think it is and questioned whether you were getting your “bang for your buck.”
From hydrating Korean beauty masks to purifying clay masks, face masks have become an essential step in many people’s skin care routine.
Laceby said there has been an increase in interest in collagen masks lately.
Specialists in Cleveland Clinic called collagen “the main building block of the body’s skin, muscles, bones, tendons and ligaments, and other connective tissues.”
Collagen is what keeps skin firm, firm, and glowing, so it makes sense that the public is interested in it.
Sheet masks claim to do all of this by applying hydrolyzed collagen directly to your face for 15 to 20 minutes.

Laceby revealed in the video why they “really can’t work” and it has to do with science.
“Collagen is too large a molecule to be absorbed topically,” she wrote in the video’s caption.
Basically, it cannot be absorbed topically because it is too large to pass through the surface of the skin.
She added that because it’s so big, the best and “most effective way” to do anything to improve your collagen levels is to take a collagen supplement.
“You don’t need collagen as an ingredient in your skin care routine, just in your supplement routine,” he said.
Ingesting it instead of applying it to the body has a greater impact.
According to Absolute CollagenLiquid collagen supplements can be quickly digested and absorbed into the bloodstream.
They can also fight signs of aging from the inside out much more effectively in a higher concentrated dose.
Laceby categorically warned people against any future purchases.
“Don’t waste your money buying collagen creams, serums and masks,” she said.
She said the only benefit you’ll get from applying collagen directly to your skin is “a little bit of hydration.”
The only items that work effectively are pro-collagen products or those that contain collagen-boosting peptides that aid in overall collagen production.
