They took to Reddit’s Skincare Addiction forum writing under the name Noiresilk to share how they cleared their acne.

“I’ve suffered from hormonal acne since my early teens, so I was recently trying new products (African black soap and lots of random moisturizers) and my skin melted,” they said.

“I was breaking out everywhere, including my forehead, which normally never happens.

“I went back to my previous routine of BP 2.5% cleanser and Cerave moisturizer, and my skin STILL didn’t improve.”

The Redditor said he planned to see a dermatologist because after two months he still didn’t see any improvement in his skin.

However, they first decided to try it again because their skin “couldn’t get any worse”.

“I had a jar of Noxzema cleansing cream lying around and I mixed my BP cleanser in the jar haha,” they said.

“I put on a layer like a mask and let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes, then washed it off with a clean cloth.

“My skin looked and felt better right after one use, but I still had residue from the cream on my skin, so I used a cotton pad and some witch hazel and then moisturized with Garnier Skin Active Aloe Moisturizer.

“At night I used these Alba Botanica pimple patches on any active pimples.

“I use Cerave Ultra Lightweight Lotion SPF 30 during the day.

“I’ve only been doing this for a week (morning and night) and my skin is almost completely clear, except for a few acne scars, of course, and I still have a few tiny, stubborn pimples on my forehead.

“I haven’t had any new outbreaks since.”

What causes hormonal acne?

Hormonal acne can affect people of any age, according to Health line.

It can be caused by hormones related to menstruation, menopause, polycystic ovarian syndrome, or increased androgen levels.

Cystic bumps often require prescription medication because they are too deep under the skin for over-the-counter products to be effective.

Experts advise people with hormonal acne to wash their face regularly and avoid products that can clog pores.

It is also recommended to limit your consumption of sugar, refined carbohydrates and dairy products.

The recommendation to use drugstore products to treat acne comes after another Redditor praised an affordable product that eliminates your scars.

Writing under name Broccoli Beansthey praised The Ordinary’s 100% organic cold-pressed rosehip seed oil.

They said the stunning results left them staring in the mirror in disbelief.

Many responses to the post said they were also impressed by the product which costs $10.90 on Amazon. Sephora.

“Rosehip oil also worked really well on my PIE [Post-inflammatory erythema],” one person commented.

“It also totally clogged all my pores and broke me out terribly.

“It’s vitamin A that helps clear up marks, which you can also get from retinoids!”

“I agree 100%,” said another.

“I use Cosrx whitehead aha liquid power, wait 30 minutes and apply TO rosehip oil before bed. My skin is starting to look like rich people’s skin.”
