A SKINCARE expert has revealed the five mistakes you can make when applying sunscreen to your face – and insisted you need the 13-point technique.

Dr. Sam Bunting, who has his own line of award-winning products, regularly shares skincare and anti-aging tips on social media.

In a recent clip, she revealed the mistakes you might be making that affect your sunscreen.

And with summer just around the corner, now is the ideal time to perfect your technique.

Dr Sam said: “We all know that SPF is the most important step in our skincare routines, so avoid making these mistakes to get the best results from your sunscreen.”

Firstly, the skin care pro said that many people are guilty of underdosing, which means not using enough product.

To fix this, she recommends using two finger-length sunscreen.

Dr Sam also warned that sunscreen is not just for summer and advised its use all year round.

Next, she said placement is equally important and recommended her “13-point technique” for even coverage.

In addition to placement, you must be careful not to forget the hairline, ears, neck and eyelids.

The last mistake people make, Dr. Sam revealed, is mixing sunscreen with foundation or moisturizer.

Dr Sam runs her own clinic on Harley Street in London and launched her skincare line, Dr Sam’s Skincare, in 2018.

The dermatologist and entrepreneur, originally from Ireland, promises that her science-based skincare range can be “trusted to transform”.

And the award-winning brand has already sold more than 160 thousand units of impeccable cleaner alone.

Dr Sam said: “I believe that when you change your skin, you change your life.

“I developed the ‘Dr. Sam System’ based on how I have successfully treated thousands of patients in my clinic – bringing Harley Street to you at home.

“My mission is to educate and empower you to master your own skin with transformational formulations that exceed your expectations of what skin care can offer.”

Eager to reach even more skincare enthusiasts, Dr. Sam has also been taking her brand on tour.

The Absolutely Flawless Roadshow kicked off in Belfast earlier this year, offering ticket holders the opportunity to hear from her directly, as well as get a personalized skincare routine, drinks and canapés.

The biggest beauty mistakes

Fabulous beauty editor Tara Ledden shared the do’s and don’ts when it comes to beauty.

“No matter how much time and money you spend on your beauty routine, if you don’t get the basics right, the rest will be wasted.

“There aren’t many non-negotiables, but these are the biggest beauty mistakes that sabotage your regimen.”

  • Do not use SPF: Sun damage is the main cause of premature skin aging, so if you want to keep your skin looking plump and glowing, sun cream is vital.
  • Using Expired Products: At best, they are ineffective and don’t deliver the results they promise; at worst, they cause irritation and infection. The shelf life of beauty products is different – for example, mascara usually lasts 3 to 6 months, while lipstick can last 9 to 18 months. Check the ‘POA’ symbol on the packaging (it looks like a bottle and will have a number within how many months it is safe once opened. If you don’t remember when you opened the product, throw it away and start over, marking the month and the year with permanent marker on the packaging.
  • Not knowing your tones: If you are using makeup in the wrong tones, it will never look natural no matter how much you blend! An easy trick to find out if you have cool, warm or neutral undertones is to check the veins on your wrist – if they look blue you have cool undertones, if they look green you have warm undertones and if they are a mix you have neutral.
  • Bypassing the thermal protector: It may seem unnecessary, but just like sun damage to your skin, excess heat is the most common cause of hair damage. So if you want shiny, healthy hair, or are trying to grow it longer, using a heat protection product is key.
  • Not washing your face before going to bed: It’s that simple: if you don’t wash your face before going to sleep, everything that remains on your skin during the day stays there for longer, clogging the pores and drying out the surface. Any skin care applied on top won’t be effective with a layer of dirt underneath, and you’ll probably end up with dirty pillows too – yuck!

She will also visit important sites, including the Blythswood Hotel in Glasgow.

And as part of the event, you can also discover Dr Sam Skincare’s latest launch – Flawless Vitamin C NAD+ Serum – which has a waiting list of over 1,500 people.

Dr. Sam’s team says the new product “activates the blueprint for youth.”
