Nancy Wickford is the brand’s UK-based skincare expert and dermatologist HelloSKIN.

Speaking to The US Sun, she shared unmissable tips for maintaining a youthful appearance.

BEAUTY BASICS

Wickford said a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, SPF and occasional exfoliation can benefit skin health at all ages.

She said hydrogel masks target the delicate areas around the eyes that are prone to dryness, fine lines and wrinkles.

She suggested HelloSKIN’s Hydrating Hydrogel Eye Masks to reduce the appearance of dark circles, puffiness, and crow’s feet.

The $16 masks contain hyaluronic acid and the Korean Botaniceutical Plus-10 complex.

“In the 20s and 30s, hydrogel eye masks could be used as a preventative measure to keep the eye area supple and hydrated,” Wickford said.

“From the age of 40, when signs of aging become more apparent, these masks can help minimize the appearance of existing fine lines and wrinkles, whilst providing intense hydration and nourishment to the delicate eye area.”

SKIN CARE CLIPS

Wickford said patience is needed when treating fine lines and wrinkles, as it can take weeks or months to see results.

She warned against using retinoids alongside harsh exfoliants as she shared three ingredients that transform aging skin.

“Retinoids: These vitamin A derivatives help increase cell turnover and stimulate collagen production,” she said.

“Start with a low-strength retinol serum or cream and gradually increase the strength as your skin builds tolerance.

“Use at night and then apply a moisturizer.

“Moisturizing face serum: Look for serums that contain hyaluronic acid, which can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, plumping and hydrating the skin to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, like helloSKIN’s Hydration Serum.

“Antioxidant serums: Vitamins C and E help neutralize free radicals that contribute to premature aging.

“Use a potent antioxidant serum in the morning under your sunscreen.”

What is hyaluronic acid?

Health Line describes hyaluronic acid as a glycosaminoglycan found naturally in the body’s connective tissue.

Maintains water molecules on skin surfaces for a hydrated appearance.

Hyaluronic acid reduces the appearance of wrinkles and improves wound healing.

PERFECT FACE

Wickford said professional salon treatments, like facials, should be used alongside at-home skin care routines, not as a replacement.

“Professional facials can help fight signs of aging by deeply exfoliating, hydrating and infusing the skin with potent anti-aging ingredients,” she said.

“If you are concerned about wrinkles, age spots and loss of firmness, having a facial every 4-6 weeks can be beneficial in maintaining a more youthful, radiant complexion.”

YOUNG GLOW

The dermatologist said several lifestyle factors can potentially reverse signs of aging.

This includes regular exercise for flexibility, cardiovascular health, and improving muscle tone.

Additionally, stop smoking, protect your skin from sun exposure and maintain a healthy weight.

“A balanced, nutrient-rich diet rich in antioxidants from fruits, vegetables and healthy fats can combat oxidative stress and inflammation associated with aging,” she said.

“Adequate sleep, managing stress through practices like meditation or yoga, and staying socially engaged can also positively impact physical and cognitive function.”

HORRIFIC TRICKS

Wickford said three anti-aging hacks popular on social media should be avoided as they lack scientific evidence and could be harmful.

“While vitamin C is beneficial for anti-aging, using undiluted lemon juice can cause severe irritation, dryness, and sometimes chemical burns to the skin due to its low pH level,” she said.

“Some people claim that hydrocortisone in hemorrhoid creams can reduce puffiness and wrinkles around the eyes.

“However, I always suggest avoiding using them under the eyes. These creams are not formulated for the delicate eye area and can cause severe irritation, thinning of the skin, and other side effects.”

She also advised against DIY dermaplanning to remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz.

“Trying to do this at home with inappropriate tools or techniques can cause cuts, scars and infections. Please always leave this to a professional,” she said.
