A NAIL TECHNICIAN has revealed the 10 designs she absolutely hates, so you might want to rethink your nail design before heading to the salon.
Jay Maria from the UK took to social media sharing her opinion on nail trends.
In the clip, she said, “Hi, I’m a nail technician and these are my unpopular opinions that will probably make you think I’m an idiot.”
The first trend Jay hated that made it onto his list was French tips on toes.
“French fingers are gross,” she said.
“I mean, icky is actually being polite, if you want me to be brutally honest, French fingers are gross.
“Why on earth would you want to emphasize a point on your toenail?
“Why do you want long nails?”
On the topic of French nails – the beauty pro added that this designer was too “lazy” for brides to choose on their wedding day.
But going to the extreme was also a problem, as Jay revealed that the 3D art was tacky.
All chrome, never looks good

The nail technician noted that she appreciated the artwork involved, but didn’t love their appearance or the harsh hygiene that goes with them, as bacteria can get trapped in the crevices.
Although many opt for white nails in the summer to highlight their tan, Jay said they were ugly, as was the new trend of all-chrome nails.
“All the chrome never looks good. After a few days, it starts to look dull and looks like you haven’t washed your hands properly,” she explained.
Another nail artist pet peeve was only doing one nail on each hand – especially on the ring finger.
Instead, she suggested opting for two accent nails on each hand if you’re getting nail art done or risk looking like a “Karen.”
She also hated her ‘duck’ shaped nails and said they needed the ‘electric chair’.
The biggest beauty mistakes

Fabulous beauty editor Tara Ledden shared the do’s and don’ts when it comes to beauty.
“No matter how much time and money you spend on your beauty routine, if you don’t get the basics right, the rest will be wasted.
“There aren’t many non-negotiables, but these are the biggest beauty mistakes that sabotage your regimen.”
- Do not use SPF: Sun damage is the main cause of premature skin aging, so if you want to keep your skin looking plump and glowing, sun cream is vital.
- Using Expired Products: At best, they are ineffective and don’t deliver the results they promise; at worst, they cause irritation and infection. The shelf life of beauty products is different – for example, mascara usually lasts 3 to 6 months, while lipstick can last 9 to 18 months. Check the ‘POA’ symbol on the packaging (it looks like a bottle and will have a number within how many months it is safe once opened. If you don’t remember when you opened the product, throw it away and start over, marking the month and the year with permanent marker on the packaging.
- Not knowing your tones: If you are using makeup in the wrong tones, it will never look natural no matter how much you blend! An easy trick to find out if you have cool, warm or neutral undertones is to check the veins on your wrist – if they look blue you have cool undertones, if they look green you have warm undertones and if they are a mix you have neutral.
- Bypassing the thermal protector: It may seem unnecessary, but just like sun damage to your skin, excess heat is the most common cause of hair damage. So if you want shiny, healthy hair, or are trying to grow it longer, using a heat protection product is key.
- Not washing your face before going to bed: It’s that simple: if you don’t wash your face before going to sleep, everything that remains on your skin during the day stays there for longer, clogging the pores and drying out the surface. Any skin care applied on top won’t be effective with a layer of dirt underneath, and you’ll probably end up with dirty pillows too – yuck!
It’s not the only nail shape she hates, square and sharp nails were also banned as she said they weren’t practical for everyday life.
Finally, she admitted that she was asked to have “free reign” when designing nails for clients.
She also didn’t like nail technicians who didn’t wear gloves when doing other people’s nails.
The clip posted on nail tech’s TikTok account @jaymariax It has since gone viral with over 370,000 views and 17,000 likes.
People were quick to share their thoughts in the comments.
One person wrote: “I’m not a nail expert, but I agree with all of this! Duck claws are vile.”
Another commented: “I love how brutal this is.”
“Gotta keep it spicy,” Jay replied.
“I once left my nails white on vacation and the pool and sunscreen turned them yellow, never again,” wrote a third.
Meanwhile, a fourth said: “Sat here with my French fingers but you are HILARIOUS.”
“This was ending and I agree with almost everything,” said a fifth.
Someone else added: “What do you like???”
