BEAUTY trends come and go, and many of us regret the way we looked in our teens and early twenties.
If you lived through the early ’90s, there’s one look that’s making a comeback, whether you’re ready for it or not.
That’s right, get ready to say goodbye to your favorite Kylie Jenner lip glosses and Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks, because lip concealers are back.
For those who didn’t have chalky lips in the 2000s, the trend involves applying a small amount of concealer to your lips to match your skin tone.
You can even add a small amount of lip gloss on top so they aren’t so matte.
While you may be having high school flashbacks, the nostalgic look has already been trending on Tiktok in recent months.
Beauty influencer @rachelray32 even shared that she was “obsessed” with her lip look, as she shared a now-viral tutorial on the app.
“I’m obsessed with putting concealer on my lips,” she gushed, as she applied a ‘touch’ of concealer to her lips.
Of course, not everyone is convinced of the return trend.
In fact, the comedian Erin Miller was so horrified by the trend’s return that she decided to do an entire piece about it.
Sewing beauty guru, she hilariously filmed herself with mascara running down her face while helping out a tube of iconic lip gloss.
She then joked: “Don’t forget to finish with Lancôme Juicy Tubes.”
Needless to say, the video went viral, with over 258,000 people viewing the video in less than 24 hours.
Of course, many people comment on the nostalgic trend.
One complained: “I REFUSE to accept the return of lip concealer, absolutely NOT.”
“Corrective lips have always felt so harsh to me,” argued another, with others even joking that they were scarred from the original look.
A third wrote pointedly: “I have great PTSD of corrective lips! Please don’t do this to me again!
Some even refused to get on board, with a fourth stating: “I didn’t apply lip balm the first time. I won’t give up this time.
Understandably, though, others felt more nostalgic about using concealer on their lips.
As the video continued to go viral, one woman said she looked the same way she did in the 90s.
She explained: “[This] immediately brought me back – I’m sure I had exactly that juicy tube.
Others learned to use their lips from their loved ones, and a fifth said: “My grandmother taught me this in 2003 and still does it.”
Yet another revealed that she had kept the same lip gloss in her purse for decades.
She told others, “I remember the day my boss showed me the Juicy tubes, she was a QUEEN…I’ve had one in my bag ever since.”
Whether you love it or hate it, it looks like lip concealer is here to stay.
All the 90s trends that are back
It may be 2024, but fashion fans are looking to the past when it comes to new styles. So what ’90s trends are making a comeback these days?
Claw Clips
These hair accessories were a huge trend in the ’90s, but now they’re more popular among those experimenting with the “clean girl” aesthetic. Designers like Prada have released their own versions, although there are thousands of colors and styles to choose from on the high street.
Platform slippers
Again a popular choice among fashionistas in the ’90s, these heels have made a comeback with designers like Balenciaga trying their luck with their own styles.
Cargo pants
Once worn by All Saints stars, cargo pants became a popular trend among teenagers in the ’90s. But now they’ve gotten a fashion makeover, with stars like Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber putting their own spin on the trend.
Jeans and a beautiful top
It was the phrase that defined fashion for a decade, and now famous faces like Sofia Richie are sporting the reinvented trend – pairing their own denim with a more sophisticated top. But are you willing to take your cute jeans and tops out of your wardrobe for a second time?
