Zoe Ukemenan, born in London to Nigerian parents, is the founder of the vegan makeup brand Kutivz Collection.

She has a degree in pharmaceuticals and has worked with stars such as singer Shingai Shoniwa and electro-pop band The Noisettes.

Speaking to The US Sun, she shared tips for defying the signs of aging.

POWERFUL PRODUCTS

Ukemenan said mature skin tends to have larger open pores, hyperpigmentation, pronounced fine lines and loss of elasticity.

She recommends using a full-coverage foundation in a shade that matches your skin.

“Liquid makeup blends more easily with these features, folding into the skin without the streaky effect, giving an easy finish,” she said.

“The liquid formulation of foundation, concealer, and even blush or eyeshadow should also add moisture back over time, as mature skin tends to retain moisture, essentially also doubling down on skin care.”

Ukemenan said vitamin E is a “hero ingredient” to look out for when shopping for beauty products.

“The ingredient is responsible for healing, combating UV sun damage and also hydrating the skin,” she said.

“After applying the liquid, a soft, loose powder can be used to lightly finish the look, without clogging pores and/or creating cracks.”

ARTISTIC APPLICATION

Ukemenan said lightweight, full-coverage products, careful application and soft finishing powder are the “ultimate secret” to a youthful appearance.

She said face products should be applied in an upward motion as this has an “indirect effect” on how the skin reacts to them.

“For makeup, there is no rule,” she said.

“Fuller coverage is achieved by rubbing rather than wiping motions, but when it comes to highlighting, you need to use upward strokes toward the top of the cheekbones to create lifting and younger-looking skin.”

BEAUTY BOOSTERS

Ukemenan said aging skin can appear younger after using products containing retinoids.

She also recommends purchasing serums with vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and skincare products that boost collagen.

I would advise against products that contain poison.

“Kutivz Kollection contains vitamin E in all of our products, is a makeup brand with skincare qualities while advocating sustainability,” she said.

“The brand uses basic product knowledge, beauty tricks and an understanding of our skincare needs – an all-in-one approach.”

FAULT FIXER

Ukemenan warned to be “very careful” when following anti-aging advice from viral videos.

“One of the products I particularly advise against is products that contain poison,” she said.

“It works by temporarily filling in lines and wrinkles in reaction to the venom.

“The effect is skin that oscillates between swollen and saggy skin, which can be more damaging to the dermis in the long term.”
