WITH summer just around the corner, the safest way to get a glow is by taking advantage of the range of self-tanners on the market.
Fortunately, there are also ways to make your tan last even longer.
Melanie Brownlow, founder of São Moriztold the details about the use of self-tanner.
With many wanting to go on vacation for summer fun, glowing skin is on the agenda.
She gave recommendations for keeping a fresh-looking at-home tan.
Brownlow also pointed out a mistake people make when getting glitter from a bottle.
THE RIGHT THING
Brownlow recommended adequate hydration for best results.
“Before tanning, pre-moisturizing any dry areas such as elbows, ankles, hands and knees will help prevent build-up in these areas,” she said.
“If you suffer from dry skin, try using a thin layer of oil-free moisturizer as this will prevent unwanted tan from building up in these areas.
“After tanning, keeping your skin hydrated can help prolong the life of your tan.

“The fewer skin cells that are shed, the longer your tan will last, so moisturizing your entire body after tanning will help prolong your glow.
“Creamy butters are great for this as they provide deep hydration before your skin becomes dry.”
Brownlow shared the perfect schedule for hydrating your skin and making your self-tanner last longer.
“Be sure to maintain your post-tan moisturizing routine,” she said.
“Applying moisturizer twice a day is recommended if possible.
“The best time to do this is after a shower so you can lock in extra moisture and improve the appearance of your tan.”
SHINES
Brownlow also revealed the do’s and don’ts of prolonging your self-tanner.
“Maintaining a glowing tan for as long as possible often depends on the preparation you do in advance,” she said.
“I would always recommend exfoliating and shaving at least 24 hours before you plan to apply self-tanner.
‘So using a primer with natural grains will prepare your skin for tanning by removing dead skin cells and evening out the skin’s surface to help your tan last longer.
The self-tanner expert warned of one thing to avoid.
“When showering in the days following applying your tan, it is best to avoid using abrasive cleansers, peels or exfoliants. This also includes fabrics that will rub against the skin,” she said.
“For example, if you use a towel, opt for a soft one. After showering, pat your skin dry with a towel rather than rubbing, as this can damage your tan.
