Reddit user Aenflex offered tried-and-true tips for fighting aging, saying your overall health is an important part of skin care.

Firstly, she said to “drink more water.

She also emphasized the benefits of using “simple products to replenish your barrier.”

“I like pure Aquaphor, or creams with petrolatum [also known as also known as petroleum jelly]. I also use vegetable oils and my dry, mature skin loves it,” she said.

She explained that she uses oils primarily to moisturize, saying baobab seed, borage, and Kalahari melon oils are typical bottles in her “rotation.”

“You don’t need a pile of skincare products to fix [prematurely aging skin],’ she said.

The Redditor’s beauty regimen consists of Timeless Skincare Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum$13.96, an occlusive cream or oils and a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser.

She keeps a few “regular creams” as part of her beauty regimen, like Aquaphor, Creme de la Mer, a thick tube of Eucerin cream, and Vaseline.

She recommended the drugstore’s CosRX Hydrium Aqueous Toner as another hydrating serum option.

Reddit user cleans and removes makeup with Clinique Take The Day Off Balm$30.75, Albolene or pure coconut oil.

“Any one of these three products will completely remove everything that is on my face, makeup, thick sunscreen, etc,” she explained.

The Reddit user said she always massages her face and uses a warm washcloth to remove leftover residue.

If she washes her face in the shower, she will use something foaming like Shiseido Waso cleanser, which has now been discontinued, or the Cerave Moisturizing Foaming Cleansing Cream$15.48.

After cleansing, she said she “always applies humectants to damp skin” and then something occlusive over the humectants.

Apply moisturizing products to damp skin, apply, spray with water again and apply oil, cream or lotion.

“I like to pat and massage everything and let it dry before moving on to sunscreen and makeup,” she explained.

The Redditor then suggested incorporating a “good hydrating serum with something occlusive on top” into your overnight bedtime routine.

Slugging is a beauty method that involves applying a layer of petroleum jelly or another occlusive ointment to the skin as one of the final steps of your nighttime routine.

As a last step, she uses prescription azelaic acid, a glycolic acid product, and the Timeless CEF serum as her “actives.”

“I alternate nights between tretinoin, glycolic acid, and azelaic acid, and a few mornings a week I use CEF,” she explained.

She added that one should never forget to use sunscreen during the day as it plays a vital role in preventing premature aging.

When it comes to makeup, she said to “steer away from drying makeup like powders and matte foundations.”

Instead, look for dewy foundations and skip powder entirely.

She also keeps a can of water in her bathroom to spray her skin between layers of makeup.
