BEAUTY trends often go out of style for good reason – but there’s one ’90s trick that seems to be making a comeback.
Lips covered in concealer were a popular look in the 2010s, but they left girls’ lips looking “like death.”
Sofia Ritchie recently praised a dot of concealer on the lips as the “cherry on top” for creating an ombre effect.
Beauty fans on social media have also been praising it, with one claiming she wants to wear it on her wedding day.
She added: “I’m obsessed with putting concealer on my lips. In my opinion, it’s the perfect lip color for me.
But the return of the 90s trend has left millennials absolutely traumatized, even as they urge the younger generation to avoid it at all costs.
“Wait, what year is it?” asked one.
A second pleaded: “Please don’t bring this back, all the girls walking around like they need a drink of water.”
A third wrote: “We did this years ago so you guys don’t have to do this.”
A fourth warned: “Don’t do this. You will look like death in your photos.”
A fifth echoed: “Oh my God, my God, nooooo!!! We suffered to free you!!!!
“Please look at our old photos and let the truth save you.”
Meanwhile, a sixth shouted: “I REFUSE to accept the return of lip concealer, absolutely NOT.”
A makeup artist also spoke out against the retro “drying” trend.
Hayley Walker, Just my look In-house MUA reveals why she won’t be experimenting with the look anytime soon.
She said: “Trends are constantly changing in the beauty industry, with the 90s favorite lip concealer making a comeback this year.
“While it’s a fun makeup trend that evokes the Y2K aesthetic, using concealer on your lips might not be the best idea.
“Concealer sets into the skin and is designed for maximum coverage and long-lasting makeup, and while it’s great for covering blemishes and brightening the skin, this feature can cause dry lips.
“Our face contains sebaceous glands that produce oil to protect the skin from harmful pathogens and retain moisture, so while this area can resist concealer, the lips do not have sebaceous glands, which can cause them to dry out.
“The mattifying effect of concealer can also cause wrinkles at the corners of the lips, resulting in an unflattering appearance.
Offering an alternative, she added: “To achieve this makeup trend that matches your lips to your skin tone without the risk of them drying out, opt for a hydrating nude lipstick.
“Using a product adapted to the lips guarantees a smooth, flawless finish, and using a nude shade that best matches your skin tone allows you to dive into this nostalgic trend.”
