IF I said the words “multipurpose balm,” I bet your first thought is Vaseline.

But now there is a whole category of products.

We tested the best multipurpose balms on the market

This week, I’m taking a ten-hour transatlantic flight, so I put three to the test.

CeraVe Advanced Repair Ointment Goes Viral on Tiktok

CeraVe Advanced Repair Ointment, £11 for 50ml: The brand’s most requested product in the UK after going viral on TikTok following its US launch, so I had high hopes.

The formula is non-comedogenic, which means it won’t clog pores, like many multi-purpose balms do, or cause blemishes, making problems even worse.

I was surprised at how easy it was to propagate, great for large areas.

However, it is quite sticky at first, so keep that in mind if you’re on the go. It’s in my stash for emergencies – I don’t use it every day.

Mid range

Mirror Water Rub Solid Balm is sophisticated and smells delicious

Mirror Water Scrub Solid Balm, £30 for 50ml: This is the fanciest multi-use balm I’ve ever seen.

It definitely feels much more like a luxury self-care product than a “does it all” solution.

Formulated with over 70% shea butter, it smells delicious and melts really well into the skin.

It has a dry oily finish, so it leaves a beautiful shine, but isn’t too oily.

I’m a 58-year-old former model and makeup artist – my little ‘tree trunk’ trick will make your eyes look wider

I found it to be brilliant for cuticles and dry areas of the body, especially straight after a bath or shower when you’re hot to the touch.

But my skin is quite sensitive, so I wouldn’t use it on my face.

Lux

Despite the price, Dior Le Baume was incredible

Dior Le Baume, £50 for 50ml: I really wanted to dislike this balm because of its high price, so I hate to admit that I thought this was amazing.

It has a much creamier formula, which means it’s not sticky or oily, but it hydrates very well and lasts a long time.

The case is by far the prettiest I’ve tried and the subtle fragrance makes it safe for the face and body.

Sometimes you really do get what you pay for.

Pick of the week

I’ve been following Topicals on Instagram for years, even though it was only available in the US.

But it’s finally arrived at Sephora UK.

The Faded Brightening & Clearing Serum is just £35

The Like Butter Hydrating Moisturizer, £30, and Faded Brightening & Clearing Serum, £35, are arriving on my doorstep and I can’t wait for them to arrive.

Stock up while you can, as the line is sure to sell out.
