FROM unblended foundation to a rather brave eyeshadow choice, many of us will have looked back on old photos and instantly regret our experimental makeup choices.

But if you’re paying £40 ($50) to have your face painted by a professional makeup artist, then you’ll expect to walk away looking and feeling like a million bucks.

Well, unfortunately that was far from the case for a woman named Katie, who decided to look for a professional makeup artist before her. marriage engagement session.

In a clip posted to TikTok (@katielafonfon), the 28-year-old, who admitted that she hadn’t seen the examples of the professional’s work on her social media pages beforehand, wrote: “The engagement makeup for the photoshoot went wrong.”

You know it’s bad when they don’t take a picture of you afterwards

She then shared several glam inspo photos she took to show the makeup expert, which included false eyelashes, neutral-colored lips, and subtle contouring.

However, moments later, she revealed the shoddy result she was left with – and it was so bad it looked like she was barely wearing makeup.

Katie goes on to explain how she paid £40 for the ‘privilege’, which she notes was a discount offered by the make-up artist in the hope she would book it for her wedding day.

But there was no chance of that…

The bride-to-be captioned the post: “You know it’s bad when they don’t take a picture of you afterwards.”

It didn’t take long for the video to go viral, racking up a staggering 642,000 views and hundreds of comments from social media users who were horrified and amused in equal measure.

“I didn’t expect what you got,” wrote one.

Katie replied: “Me neither. We were both shocked.”

A second joked: “Me after following a YouTube tutorial.”

A third commented: “Was the person proud of their work?? Like, did they think it looked like the photos?”

Katie replied, “Yes, she did. She told me I was ready to go.”

Meanwhile, a fourth joked: “Was the mix an extra cost?”

The biggest beauty mistakes

Fabulous beauty editor Tara Ledden shared the do’s and don’ts when it comes to beauty.

“No matter how much time and money you spend on your beauty routine, if you don’t get the basics right, the rest will be wasted.

“There aren’t many non-negotiables, but these are the biggest beauty mistakes that sabotage your regimen.”

  • Do not use SPF: Sun damage is the main cause of premature skin aging, so if you want to keep your skin looking plump and glowing, sun cream is vital.
  • Using Expired Products: At best, they are ineffective and don’t deliver the results they promise; at worst, they cause irritation and infection. The shelf life of beauty products is different – for example, mascara usually lasts 3 to 6 months, while lipstick can last 9 to 18 months. Check the ‘POA’ symbol on the packaging (it looks like a bottle and will have a number within how many months it is safe once opened. If you don’t remember when you opened the product, throw it away and start over, marking the month and the year with permanent marker on the packaging.
  • Not knowing your tones: If you are using makeup in the wrong tones, it will never look natural no matter how much you blend! An easy trick to find out if you have cool, warm or neutral undertones is to check the veins on your wrist – if they look blue you have cool undertones, if they look green you have warm undertones and if they are a mix you have neutral.
  • Bypassing the thermal protector: It may seem unnecessary, but just like sun damage to your skin, excess heat is the most common cause of hair damage. So if you want shiny, healthy hair, or are trying to grow it longer, using a heat protection product is key.
  • Not washing your face before going to bed: It’s that simple: if you don’t wash your face before going to sleep, everything that remains on your skin during the day stays there for longer, clogging the pores and drying out the surface. Any skin care applied on top won’t be effective with a layer of dirt underneath, and you’ll probably end up with dirty pillows too – yuck!

Another added: “Omg as a professional makeup artist and product formulator this is an absolute no!

“I hope you don’t have to pay for this.”

And another one chimed in: “I’m a makeup artist and, my God, I have no words.”
