A SKINCARE fan shared a trick that soothed her skin after a bad sunburn.
After forgetting the sunscreen, she told an old story to prevent pain and treat her skin.
Editor Chloe Bugs shared the beauty tip in a post.
“I committed the worst crime: I forgot my sunscreen,” she said.
“I spent about 3 hours in the sun unprotected and, unsurprisingly, came out with a pretty gnarly burn on my shoulders, chest and face.”
She quickly realized she had the usual symptoms of sun poisoning and went to see a doctor.
“It turns out there’s nothing you can do about a bad burn except apply a layer of aloe vera and be patient,” she said.
“However, my shoulders hurt too much to put on any clothes, lie down or lift my arms, and as a retail employee, waiting was not an option.”
Fortunately, Chloe remembered a traditional remedy that came in handy.
“Then… I remembered an old story that a black tea compress could help heal scrapes and cuts, and I decided to give it a try,” she said.

“I brewed some really strong black tea (3 bags to 1/2 cup of water) and wet some paper towels and left them on my skin for a few hours, and OH MY GOD, my skin turned from almost purple to light pink. “
Chloe revealed that she opted for black tea for breakfast at Trader Joe’s.
“I assume it would work with any black tea, although I’m not sure,” she said.
“I just used Trader Joe’s plain tea.”
Not only did it help to soothe the discolored skin, but within hours it soothed the irritated burn.
“[It] It’s no longer hot to the touch and I’m virtually pain free,” she said.
How black tea can help with sunburn
Specialists in Outdoor sunshine explained that black tea, rich in antioxidants, has been a natural remedy for treating irritated and sunburned skin for years.
Black tea contains anti-inflammatory tannins, which help soothe burns.
“Soak several tea bags in cold water and allow the tannins to release,” the website said.
“You will know this when the water darkens substantially, indicating that the tea bags and water are ready to be applied.
“You can apply the tea bags directly to the skin, which can be helpful on sensitive areas like the eyelids.
“A cloth can also be soaked in water to gently apply this solution to sunburned skin. Black tea will remove heat, pain and burning very quickly. Additionally, the tannins released will reduce inflammation, help protect the skin UV rays and helps restore the skin’s pH balance.”
“DEFINITELY try this next time you get it wrong. This saved me from a long week of pain and sticky aloe vera lotion.”
Others vouched for the home remedy.
“The same thing worked for me when I had sun poisoning!” said one commenter.
“Yes!! I started Zoloft because of anxiety and for the last few years I’ve been thinking, ‘Pft, I’m not going to be sensitive to the sun anymore!’ and end up like a crunchy tomato,” said another.
“The catechins, antioxidants, etc. just keep the heat away. It’s a good thing I stock up on tea.”
“It’s true! It works so well and people think you’re crazy when you recommend it,” said a third.
