ALTHOUGH homemade recipes and projects can often save time and money, not all things are meant to be done by yourself.

Sunscreen is one of those things.

Nara Smith and her husband Lucky Blue, two TikTok influencers, are once again causing a stir on the internet with their homemade recipes.

Smith, a content creator with more than seven million followers, often goes viral by sharing the meals she prepares for her family.

Foods she has prepared in the past, like homemade Oreos, have confused her viewers.

On a videoSmith teamed up with her husband to make sunscreen from scratch.

In a glass bowl, the two added coconut oil, beeswax, shea butter, coconut butter, and jojoba oil.

Lucky Blue placed the bowl over a pan of boiling water to melt the butters and oils.

Then he added zinc oxide powder to the liquid solution, mixed everything and transferred the “sunscreen” to a glass bottle.

TikTok viewers thought the DIY beauty recipe wasn’t the best idea.

“Homemade sunscreen is crazy!” said another.

“Every time Lucky goes out, DIY gets really messed up,” said a third.

“Yes, homemade sunscreen is also homemade melanoma,” said a fourth.

“You guys have reached a new level,” said one exasperated viewer.

Others suggested ideas for projects the couple could pursue in the future.

“All I need is a recipe to make money,” joked one commenter.

“Nara, how to make a screen protector for iPhone 15 Pro Max, please?” added another.

Although Smith claimed the sunscreen was safe for use, dermatologists thought otherwise.

Adarsh Vijay Mudgil, a board-certified dermatologist, called homemade sunscreen a “terrible idea” while talking to Glam.

“But it could be an SPF 2 or 3, not an SPF 30, which is what I recommend to my patients – and ideally one with a mineral component like titanium or zinc.”

Mudgil recommended that viewers avoid making their own sunscreen and opt to buy a reputable brand.

When shopping, he encouraged consumers to look for sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 and mineral ingredients, such as titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide.
