Rebecca Elsdon is an advanced skin specialist and health clinic owner Re/skin in Sheffield, England.

She has over 20 years of experience in the industry, taking a scientific and holistic approach.

Speaking to The US Sun, she shared how to maintain a youthful appearance.

Banish bags under the eyes

Elsdon said good skin care needs to be combined with lifestyle habits to reduce the appearance of bags under the eyes.

She shared the best home remedy to soothe your skin.

“Applying cold compresses can decrease swelling, while using eye creams containing caffeine, retinol, or peptides can tighten the skin and improve elasticity,” she said.

“Ensuring adequate sleep, reducing salt intake and staying hydrated also play a crucial role in minimizing under-eye puffiness.”

DECREASE DARK CIRCLES

Genetic, health and lifestyle factors such as lack of sleep, smoking, sun exposure and poor diet can cause dark circles.

“The skin in this area is very thin, making the blood vessels and pigmentation more visible,” Elsdon said.

“The area under the eyes is also relatively immobile, leading to slower circulation. This causes blood to pool in the capillaries, making the area appear darker.”

She said dark circles can be lightened with eye creams that contain ingredients like vitamin C, kojic acid, or niacinamide to alleviate hyperpigmentation.

However, applying topical beauty products isn’t the only habit to adopt for an even complexion.

“Additionally, ensuring consistent sun protection and maintaining a healthy sleep routine can help significantly,” she said.

“Sometimes incorporating color-correcting concealers can also provide an immediate brightening effect.”

She said treatments such as skin boosters and mesotherapy can be beneficial for treating “challenging” hereditary dark circles.

“Regular appointments with a skin specialist can help tailor a skincare routine to your specific needs, ensuring the best results for your skin’s health and appearance,” he added.

SOFT WRINKLES

Elsdon revealed that there is a selection of powerful ingredients that can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as an alternative to cosmetic injections.

Among them are retinoids, which can promote cell renewal and collagen production.

Daily UV protection will help prevent new lines.

“Antioxidants like vitamin C can protect against environmental damage, while peptides support skin structure, encouraging skin regeneration,” she said.

“Regular use of hyaluronic acid can plump the skin and consistent hydration is essential.

“Of course, daily protection against UV rays will help prevent new lines.

“Microneedling and non-invasive laser treatments are also excellent options.”

Hack from young hands

Skin expert Rebecca Elsdon has revealed that it is possible to reverse the signs of aging on your hands.

“People can use topical retinoids to increase collagen production, as well as products containing hyaluronic acid to improve hydration,” she said.

“Skin needling and laser treatments can also rejuvenate the skin by removing dead cells and stimulating the growth of new cells.

“Regular hydration with creams rich in antioxidants is essential, as is daily sun protection of at least SPF 50.”

She said many of these anti-aging ingredients are also in makeup products.

“Look for foundations and primers that contain hyaluronic acid for hydration, peptides to repair skin, and antioxidants like vitamins C and E to fight free radicals,” she said.

“Some products also include SPF to protect against UV damage, further preventing signs of aging.

“However, don’t just rely on the SPF of your foundation, you will need a separate product dedicated to UV protection.”
