A TRICHOLOGIST has revealed the key ingredient to look out for when buying hair products to stimulate growth.
She shared her tips for achieving visibly healthier hair in just three months.
Angela Onuoha is a certified trichologist and expert consultant for Rhyme & Reason, a hair care brand sold in Target.
Speaking to The US Sun, she shared advice on how to look after your hair.
POWERFUL PRODUCT
Onuoha said chemists “studied for years” to formulate and test the hair products we see on the shelves.
Therefore, products on the market are more effective than home treatments.
She recommended reading the packaging to choose a product that suits your needs and using it consistently.
“If you are losing a lot of hair and notice a lack of density, it may be a good option to opt for volume-boosting products to make your hair appear thicker than it currently is,” she said.
She recommended Rhyme & Reason Volume & Body Shampoo and Conditioner to “nourish” the hair and scalp.

Onuoha said the time it takes for hair to grow is determined by the condition of the hair follicles and the causes of any hair loss.
“When it comes to telogen effluvium, which is a form of temporary hair loss, it can take two to six months if the cause is resolved for you to see hair regrowth,” she said.
She said if your hair loss is caused by an internal problem, it will fall out regardless of what you do to it.
“Gentle hair practices are always recommended with or without hair loss, so I would always avoid wearing tight hairstyles, like a slick bun or high ponytail, for long periods of time,” she said.
She said straight or wavy hair should only be brushed when dry, then apply a leave-in conditioner or a product like Rhyme & Reason Argan Oil Smooth Finish Serum.
However, curly or frizzy hair should be brushed when damp and with conditioner applied.
She recommended Rhyme & Reason Quench & Curl Conditioner to create a “barrier” between the hair and the brush for glide while reducing damage and breakage.
FOLLICLE CORRECTIONS
Onuoha said there are several causes of hair loss, but with patience and consistency, hair can grow back.
This includes “genetics, hormonal changes such as imbalances like PCOS, thyroid disorders, but also pregnancy, postpartum and menopause,” she said.
“Certain medications can have a negative effect on hair growth or integrity.
“Physical or emotional stress, such as recovering from an injury or surgery or even physical trauma and nutritional deficiencies.”
In addition to topical treatments, she suggested taking blood tests so that the diet could be changed if necessary or improved with supplements.
She said results from routine hair treatment take about three months to appear.
