There is nothing better than leaving the salon with new nails.

However, one woman was left less than impressed after paying for what she described as a “horrible” manicure.

In her viral video, Kaylyn Hill (@kaylyn.hill) shared how she was reduced to tears after splurging on what she thought was a luxurious set of nails.

She said she couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the final look of her new nails after spending £53 on the beauty treatment.

The 23-year-old said she did her due diligence, researching the exact look she wanted before her appointment.

Kaylyn revealed that she booked the manicure based on her sister’s recommendation.

Instead of visiting her usual salon, her sister opted to visit an in-house manicurist.

Kaylyn ended up crying in the car after shelling out the money to buy her new nails.

She said she was shocked because the manicurist did not look like what she had discussed with the manicurist.

According to Kaylyn, the technician claimed she could do the job after receiving a job description.

Kaylyn received short multicolored nails with thick tips, with jagged lines, despite apparently asking for quartz nails.

She said she wanted her nails to look longer and shinier.

I got a full manicure, but I refused to pay a penny because I chose the wrong color – people are outraged, but it’s not my fault

Despite her frustration, Kaylyn agreed to pay the fee and did not pursue complaints directly with the woman.

The Texas housewife also left the manicurist a tip for her work.

Kaylyn described them as ‘Google Chrome’ nails, insisting she would remove them immediately.

“I’m going to cry about this for the next six years,” she said as she cried on camera.

“I paid for some horrible nails that look like Skittles. I told the woman they were super cute and left her a tip.”

What are your rights to a refund at a salon?

What should you do if you are not satisfied with the beauty treatment you received?

O National Hair and Beauty Federation recommends making a complaint while you are still at the salon, if you are not satisfied with the service.

If you have already left the location, they advise not to go elsewhere for assistance as the original company will need to see the issue before addressing the complaint.

How are you legally protected?

The Consumer Rights Act 2005 (England and Wales) says:

  • If a service has not been provided with reasonable care and skill or as agreed, the service provider must put things right within a reasonable time and at its own expense.
  • If this is not practical, you should receive some or all of your money back within 14 days of agreeing to the refund.

What options will the salon give you to solve the problem?

The company can offer to:

  • Redo all or part of the service.
  • Offer a full or partial refund.
  • Pay to have the problem resolved elsewhere (at a reasonable cost).

The video caused controversy on TikTok as users debated Kaylyn’s response to the situation.

“First, why do you need fake nails?! And two, true or false, should be no more than a quarter of an inch,” said one viewer.

“When you’ve waited a long time to get treatment and £53 is all you have for it, it’s so disappointing when they’re wrong,” another follower wrote.

“I’m so sorry for you.”

“She said, ‘You’re going home with Crayola,’” a third person joked.

Another TikTok user described the finished manicure as “offensive.”
