We tested three SPF lip products to see which one is best for summer

MY lips are always dry, so tinted lip balm is my year-round go-to, and now that the sun is out, it’s imperative that everything I’m using provides SPF protection.

This week, I tested three lip colors with SPF.

Budget

ELF Sun Boss Gloss SPF25, £7 for 4ml, boots.com: Disclaimer, this is a gloss and not a balm, but the formula contains vitamin E and hyaluronic acid, so it’s nourishing enough to do the same job of moisturizing my lips and keeping them from becoming chapped and chapped.

It is not sticky or sticky, has a very good color and a summery coconut scent.

My only complaint is that I wish the protection factor was a little higher, but I can apply a layer of tinted SPF lip balm on very sunny days thanks to the different consistencies.

Mid range

ULTRA Violette Sheen Screen Moisturizing Lip Balm SPF50, £17 for 15g, spacenk.com: I’ve been a long-time fan of Ultra Violette, and before I even tried the tinted balm, it won me over with its SPF50 rating.

The skin on our lips is thinner than on other parts of the face, so it’s even more important to make sure they’re protected.

The shade is sheer, but enough to make me feel good.

I’ve noticed that the consistency of the formula changes depending on the temperature, so it’s quite hard when it’s cold and much more fluid when it’s hot, which is something to keep in mind, but other than that I can’t find any flaws.

It’s definitely my favorite.

TATCHA The Kissu Lip Tint Spf 25, £35 for 4g, spacenk.com: Being a skincare brand, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this lipstick – although the lip mask from the same line is one of my favorites.

The color was by far the heaviest of the three, being much closer to a lipstick than a tint – which is great for days when I have a full face of makeup on, but can look overdone otherwise.

That’s why it’s the least moisturizing of the three, something I prioritize.

If you don’t suffer from dry lips then it’s a great option, but I prefer something with more hydration.

I CANNOT think of a single scent that would please everyone more than Marc Jacobs Daisy, £52 for 30ml EDT.

It’s floral but fresh, so it doesn’t feel dated or cloying.
