Patel is an award-winning aesthetic practitioner and skin care expert from Intriga Cosmetic Clinic in Kent, England.

Speaking to The US Sun, he shared tips for defying the signs of aging.

KEEP YOUR SKIN HYDRATED IN YOUR 20S

Patel said an effective moisturizer is the most important product to use in your 20s.

“If you already use sunscreen on top of your moisturizer, then something with hyaluronic acid is perfect,” he said.

“Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body, so it is compatible with the body and therefore does not compromise the skin or cause breakouts.

“It also helps plump the skin, giving it a beautiful, fresh appearance.”

INTRODUCE VITAMIN A AT AGE 30

Patel said hyaluronic acid should continue to be used after age 30, but also consider introducing retinol.

“That combination works well,” he said. “Retinol increases the production (proliferation) of skin cells.

“It also helps unclog pores, exfoliates the skin and increases collagen production, while hyaluronic acid replenishes the skin and hydrates.”

Exfoliate routinely in your 40s

Patel said a “higher strength” retinol used along with hyaluronic acid is recommended for anti-aging in the 40s.

“However, they may need extra support due to hormonal imbalances for conditions like dry, flaky skin or blemish outbreaks,” he said.

“A good granular exfoliant will pay dividends in removing dead skin cells and encouraging glowing, youthful-looking skin.

“Moisturize your neck and hands with a cream designed specifically for these areas, as their formulation will be different and will require some care to keep them looking good.”

BRIGHTEN YOUR SKIN AT AGE 50

Patel revealed that skin care in your 50s is much the same as it was in the previous decade, but should be adapted as your skin’s needs change.

“I really like vitamin C as a supplement,” he said.

Ceramides are a super ingredient.

“It has a brightening effect on the skin and renews collagen, which provides younger-looking skin.”

LAYERING HYDRATION AT AGE 60

Patel said skin gets thinner as we age, so from age 60 onwards, a thicker moisturizer may be necessary.

“I recommend focusing on hydration with layers of hydrating serums followed by a lightweight moisturizer,” she said.

“Ceramides are a super ingredient at this age.

“They help to replenish natural ceramides in the top layer of the skin, supporting the skin barrier and helping to eliminate any dryness or sensitivity that can be a problem in more mature skin.”

Amish previously shared with The US Sun the correct order to apply skincare products.

He said the cleanser should be used before applying a “hydrating serum and SPF.”

At night, use a rich moisturizer only if your skin needs it.

He added that products with a thicker consistency should be applied after serums for effective absorption.
