But when it comes to anti-aging, one beauty expert claims to know exactly what to do.

Search for Mintel found that 10 percent of UK adults have undergone cosmetic surgery.

They also found that 37 percent of women in the UK would consider cosmetic surgery, while around 25 percent of men would also consider cosmetic treatment.

But Rachael Divers, makeup artist at Face the future, revealed that beauty fans can avoid going down the route of invasive cosmetic adjustments if they follow her makeup guide.

She believes mature women just need to make a few small adjustments to their beauty regime – and it will make all the difference.

Rachael says makeup is her “best friend” when it comes to achieving a wrinkle-free look.

Makeup artists say beauty fans should start with a “brightening primer that contains hydrating and anti-aging ingredients.”

She believes it will add a “beautiful glow” and “youthful radiance” to your complexion.

Using a heavy foundation should be avoided and instead a light concealer can help with anti-aging.

She says: “For your base makeup, opt for something light and luminous – heavy foundations can form fine lines and look aged on your skin.”

Rachael advises using a concealer with antioxidant ingredients to reduce puffiness and dark circles.

Concealer will help give you a fresher, more rejuvenated appearance compared to looking heavy and tired.

The biggest beauty mistakes

Fabulous beauty editor Tara Ledden shared the do’s and don’ts when it comes to beauty.

“No matter how much time and money you spend on your beauty routine, if you don’t get the basics right, the rest will be wasted.

“There aren’t many non-negotiables, but these are the biggest beauty mistakes that sabotage your regimen.”

  • Do not use SPF: Sun damage is the main cause of premature skin aging, so if you want to keep your skin looking plump and glowing, sun cream is vital.
  • Using Expired Products: At best, they are ineffective and don’t deliver the results they promise; at worst, they cause irritation and infection. The shelf life of beauty products is different – for example, mascara usually lasts 3 to 6 months, while lipstick can last 9 to 18 months. Check the ‘POA’ symbol on the packaging (it looks like a bottle and will have a number within how many months it is safe once opened. If you don’t remember when you opened the product, throw it away and start over, marking the month and the year with permanent marker on the packaging.
  • Not knowing your tones: If you are using makeup in the wrong tones, it will never look natural no matter how much you blend! An easy trick to find out if you have cool, warm or neutral undertones is to check the veins on your wrist – if they look blue you have cool undertones, if they look green you have warm undertones and if they are a mix you have neutral.
  • Bypassing the thermal protector: It may seem unnecessary, but just like sun damage to your skin, excess heat is the most common cause of hair damage. So if you want shiny, healthy hair, or are trying to grow it longer, using a heat protection product is key.
  • Not washing your face before going to bed: It’s that simple: if you don’t wash your face before going to sleep, everything that remains on your skin during the day stays there for longer, clogging the pores and drying out the surface. Any skin care applied on top won’t be effective with a layer of dirt underneath, and you’ll probably end up with dirty pillows too – yuck!

Mature people should opt for a “fun pop of color” in the blush, which will give the effect of a “youthful flush”.

Add a “sunny glow” by swiping blush onto your cheeks, along with fuller brows and long lashes with volume to really give a “youthful look.”

It’s important to emphasize features like eyebrows and eyes to add more definition.

To finish off the anti-aging look, Rachael recommends using a tinted lip balm.

For your base makeup, opt for something light and luminous – heavy foundations can form fine lines and look aged on your skin.

By adding a moisturizing balm, your lips will look “fuller” and give you a “younger appearance.”

She recommends choosing a tinted balm for a pop of color, perfect for summer.

Similar to a heavy foundation, Rachael believes that a heavy lipstick can form fine lines and expose more wrinkles.
