EVERY person is labeled as Yin or Yang based on one of the five elements which is determined by their year of birth.
According to Chinese astrology, all zodiac signs have Yin and Yang. Here’s everything we know.
What does Yin and Yang mean?
Yin and Yang are the idea of existence and the fact that everything in life flows and grows.
It is impossible to define the state of Yin or Yang, but both energies exist simultaneously.
According to the Personal Tao, the concept of Yin Yang is duality forming a whole.
The website explains: “Yin Yang are two halves that together complete the whole.
“Yin and yang are also the starting point for change. When something is complete, by definition, it is unchanging and complete.
So when you divide something into two halves – it upsets the balance.
“Both halves are chasing each other as they seek a new balance between themselves.”
It is believed that these opposing forces are interconnected and interdependent and one cannot exist without the other.
Although these forces oppose each other, they coexist in harmony.
Both are equal and dependent on each other.
Yin represents darkness, passivity and femininity, while yang symbolizes light, activity and masculinity.
Away from astrology, our personalities can also be predominantly Yin or Yang.
Yang types tend to be more active, outgoing and ambitious, while Yin types are peaceful, relaxed and easygoing.
Yang people are more about radical change, drama, and standing out from the crowd.
Yin personalities are more hesitant and emotional.
Compatibility based on Yin and Yang
The Chinese zodiac elements identify the birth years of certain animals using the Earth, Wood, Fire, Metal and Water elements that add more uniqueness to the sign.
Each sign has a yin and yang identity that also applies to the element and year of birth.
For example, the Rabbit has yin polarity and if someone was born in the year of the Wood Rabbit which is 1975, the main element of that year is Wood Yin.
The Yang signs are: Monkey, Tiger, Rat, Horse, Dragon and Dog.
The Yin signs are: Rooster, Rabbit, Pig, Snake, Ox and Goat.
No one is completely Yin or completely Yang because “each aspect contains the starting point for the other aspect”.
You can have a Yang sign, but typically people are a mix of Yin or Yang signs since the planets are spread out in different signs.
Part of the Yin and Yang energy creates a compatibility triangle with certain signs to show how well they match up in areas of life such as love, work and friendship.
Members of the same compatibility triangle share the same yin and yang polarity.
First compatibility triangle: Yang Rat, Yang Dragon, Yang Monkey.
Second compatibility triangle: Yin Ox, Yin Snake, Yin Rooster.
Third compatibility triangle: Yang Tiger, Yang Horse, Yang Dog.
Fourth compatibility triangle: Yin Rabbit, Yin Goat, Yin Pig.
While this isn’t the main determining factor in compatibility, it helps explain the common idea that “opposites attract” because someone of the opposite polarity can help you feel more balanced.
There are no good or bad attributes, the objective is to maintain balance.
Knowing your strengths and weaknesses will help you recognize when you are balanced or not.
