FOOD is the key to the soul, says an experienced mom who shared a useful trick she uses on the first day of school.
The technique, she revealed, makes her children open up to her in the way she wants.
Raquel Farnsworth (@thestayathomechef) shared the tip for parents in a TikTok video.
She explained that every year, on the first day of school, she makes chocolate chip cookies for her children.
On the surface, treats may seem like a mere thoughtful gesture.
“It’s not just a cute supermom thing; it’s actually a sneaky mom trick,” she said.

Farnsworth explained that the cookies help her kids relax and unwind after a stressful first day.
Sweets, however, also have a dual purpose.
She explained that the trick is not to prepare the cookies until the kids get home.
Farnsworth strategically preheats the oven and makes sure it’s ready, as well as preparing the cookie dough in advance.
She keeps the ingredients in the fridge and makes a point of baking the cookies when the kids get home.
“I put them in the oven and they take about ten to 12 minutes to bake, then they have ten to 12 minutes where they sit, hovering in the kitchen, and tell me all about their day,” she said. .
The mother added that the practical technique works on many occasions, not just the first day of school.
“You can use it whenever your child is having a hard time – there’s something about sitting in the kitchen and waiting for food that makes people smile,” she added.
Farnsworth explained that the trick has proven to be foolproof and has worked for her for over a decade.
Viewers took to the comments to share their thoughts on her parenting hack.
“Why does this make me want to cry?” said one commenter.
“I cried watching this. This is so healthy and will mean so much more to them as they get older and realize you did it to spend quality time with them,” agreed another.
Parents agreed that the technique helped get children to open up.
“Great for when they’re teenagers and coming back from a date,” said one.
“I would wait until midnight to put my cookies in the oven when they got home.”
“This is a great idea! My daughter is having an emotional crisis her first few days at school. This will definitely help!” said another.
