CHOOSING a baby name can be tricky and can lead to regret if you choose the wrong name.
One mother said she now “hates” her son’s nickname so much she can’t say it out loud.
Taking to Redditshe shared how her boyfriend was adamant about the name, just like it was in his family.
She shared: “I hate my baby’s name. I’m not sure if I’m exaggerating, I’m wondering if this hill is worth dying for.
“I (28f) had just given birth about a month ago to a healthy baby boy and I absolutely hate his name.”
The woman said her partner Emmett, 30, had started suggesting names for boys and was keen to use the names of his grandfather or great-grandfather, Oliver and Chad.
The woman wasn’t sure, but she said she would rather have gone with Oliver than Chad, even though she didn’t either.
The mother continued: “I HATE the name Chad, we know some Chads, they are not great people.
“Emmett is very sentimental when it comes to anything in his life that has to do with his family, I’m not so sentimental.
“I asked him to compromise and make Chad his middle name because I prefer Oliver. He said maybe, but with a ‘no’ tone.”
During her pregnancy, she admitted that she secretly wished the baby was a girl so she could choose the name, but she definitely had a son.
She shared: “After 13 hours of labor, our son came into the world.
“We waited until I was relaxed and situated before we signed your birth certificate.”
When the woman saw the piece of paper, her heart sank as she said that her partner had already put in ‘Chad Beau Smith’.
She added: “I have no say in that name.
“Emmett saw me naked and drugged and went through the most difficult experience of my life and I have nothing to say.
“I ended up fighting with Emmett for about an hour and then gave up. ‘EVERYTHING, YOU WIN…’ “He smiled as he handed over his birth certificate. I was too tired to fight anymore, I felt like I just needed to focus on taking care of my baby.”
The new mother said her baby is already a month old and she avoids saying his name.
Are unique baby names worth it?
The Fabulous deputy editor reveals the turmoil she faced with her own name growing up.
When I was a kid, all I wanted was one of those personalized keychains with my name on it.
But no joy, the closest I could find was Rosie, Joseph (not very good for a girl) and Joanne.
Josie is short for Josephine, which is a French name, and I managed to reach my 20s without ever meeting anyone who shared it.
When I try to introduce myself to people, I get all sorts of random things – like Tracey and Stacey – which can be really annoying.
Although I’ve come into contact with a few Josies over the past year – there seem to be a few of us around my age – it’s still a much rarer name than most of my friends.
Overall I don’t mind it, at least it’s not rude or poorly written.
And that means I can get away with ‘doing a Cheryl’ and just referring to myself as Josie.
I’m getting married this year and some friends are shocked that I’m changing my surname, as it’s not seen as very cool or feminist to do so these days, but I explain to them that I’m not as attached to Griffiths as I always said’ hi, it’s Josie’ when calling a friend.
I think it’s good to be unique and I will definitely try to replicate that when naming my own children.
It’s the rude names you have to watch out for, so after nine years as a lifestyle journalist, I’ll definitely avoid them.
She shared, “I can’t bring myself to call him Chad.
“I also didn’t post anything on SM because I hate the name.
“I also felt like I was disconnecting from this relationship because after everything Emmett saw me go through, I felt like I didn’t matter.
“Am I exaggerating?”
Many people quickly commented on the baby name saga and overwhelmingly sided with her.
One of them said, “Why are you with this person?”
Another added: “You can change this. It’s not too late.”
And a third commented: “I wouldn’t have let him in the delivery room, I wouldn’t have put his name on the birth certificate.
“You carried the baby, you gave birth. Why does he choose the baby’s name?
