WHEN it comes to the birth of a baby, some people opt for traditional nicknames, while others prefer something a little more unique.

But one woman was left horrified when her friend revealed her chosen name for her baby… with others agreeing it “sounds like thrush cream”.

In a thread shared with Redditthe woman said: “She is pregnant for the first time and does not know the sex of her child as neither her husband nor she wants to know before the birth.

“They have one for each.”

She then revealed that she’s in love with Raven for a boy, and Femily for a girl, and says that no matter what anyone says to her friend, she “won’t give in.”

Despite initially chalking it up to pregnancy hormones, the woman was shocked to discover that her friend’s husband agreed with her friend and also liked the names.

“They painted the baby’s room and ordered towels, baby grows, etc. with initials on the key pieces, saying that if they get a girl they will save the other things for when they have a boy and vice versa,” she continued.

Sharing her issue with her chosen nicknames, she noted how she believes Raven is a girl’s name and has never heard of a boy or man with that nickname.

She goes on to say that when she asked her friend why she chose the particular name, she explained that if they had a baby with black hair and blue eyes, it would be “the cutest baby ever.”

But the confused woman noticed how both she and her husband have red hair, so she doesn’t know how she came to that conclusion.

“I know she has a favorite book with a character similar to this, but even in the book the main character doesn’t have that name,” the woman added.

“As for Femily… FEMIL Y… when you have the perfectly reasonable name of Emily.”

I’m a teacher and this is the worst baby name ever – no one can say it and the parents used punctuation instead of letters (1)

It wasn’t long before the social media posts racked up hundreds of comments, with many eager to share their honest opinions on the names in question.

“Femily looks like a discount brand of feminine hygiene spray,” one wrote.

“Raven is definitely the lesser of evils in this case.”

A second commented: “Femily just reminds me of the line from Mean Girls: I have a nephew called Anfernee and I know how mad he gets when I call him Anthony.

“Almost as furious as I get when I think about the fact that my sister called him Anfernee.”

Meanwhile, a third agreed: “Female is a very special choice!”

Another added: “Raven is forgivable. That’s the end of my positive feedback.”

And another added: “Femiliar is horrible, but Raven is also a masculine name in some countries.

“I’ve actually personally known two men named Raven (spelled Raven and Ravn), but Femily is just… no.”
