A NURSING professional is someone who many pregnant women feel they can turn to for emotional support and advice.
But a 30-year-old woman, 25 weeks pregnant, told how she received no help from a doctor during a recent scan.
In a thread shared with RedditThe mom-to-be, who is 5’5, explained how she weighed 140 pounds before getting pregnant and now weighs 168 pounds.
Speaking about the nurse’s reaction to her weight gain, the woman wrote: “She seemed very eager to point out that the last time I had an appointment I weighed 160 kilos and within a month I had gained ’10 kilos’ when in reality it was 8 pounds.
“I know you’re rounding, but it didn’t seem right to say 10 when it was 8.”
The pregnant woman went on to say that she is already “insecure” about her weight – noting that “I used to be very athletic and liked bodybuilding”.
However, she added that since becoming pregnant she can no longer do pre-workout and finds it “more difficult to be motivated to train”.
She continued: “I’ve gained weight in my butt/hips/thighs and that’s usually where my fat gets stored when my weight fluctuates.”
The woman, who said she felt it was normal to gain weight during pregnancy, went on to point out that “she doesn’t really have any belly fat” and that her belly is “tight to the touch”.
She added that when she told the nurse she walked a kilometer every day during her work break, the specialist replied: “That’s not much.”
Responding to the unnecessary comment, the frustrated woman said: “Well, no, but is it better than sitting all day and not walking?”
The upset mother-to-be admitted she felt “embarrassed” and highlighted that she doesn’t drink soft drinks or eat fatty foods and always chooses healthy snacks.
It didn’t take long for other pregnant women to rush to the comments section to offer words of support.
“It looks like normal weight gain. A little too frank and strange”, assured one of them.
A second commented: “For people calling you sensitive, it’s perfectly normal to be sensitive.
“You are allowed to feel whatever you feel. I would have asked her if this is something I needed to worry about since she is pointing it out and that way you would have clarity.”
A third woman who is 35 weeks pregnant told how she recently switched doctors because hers wouldn’t stop talking about her 21-pound weight gain.
How big is your baby each week?
Becoming a parent for the first time is exciting – many people want to know how big their child is every week, and most of the time we compare them to food.
- 4 weeks – poppy seed
- 6 weeks – cooked beans
- 12 weeks – a small plum
- 15 weeks – an apple
- 23 weeks – one sleeve
- 28 weeks – a large eggplant
- 31 weeks – a coconut
- 35 weeks – melon
- 40 weeks – a small pumpkin
Meanwhile, a fourth insisted: “You’re not being sensitive. The other commenters who said this lack empathy.
“For them to say a mile isn’t a lot is rude – it’s actually decent for a pregnant person… most pregnant women don’t walk that much in a day and they work.”
In another section, one even talked about how she could “relate” to the pregnant woman.
‘I was leaving yesterday and one of my acquaintances felt the need to comment: ‘You’re huge! out of the blue. I’m 33 weeks,” she explained.
“I was 138 when I started, now I’m 159.
“I’m not huge. In fact, my OB scheduled an extra ultrasound a few weeks ago because I was measuring small. I was really annoyed.”
