SHE was just trying to relive her childhood by taking her son to Southend.
But Chloe’s trip to Adventure Island didn’t go as planned as she was left fearing for her and her two-year-old son’s lives when the door opened on the City Wheel ride.
Chloe revealed what happened in a video on her TikTok page when she began: “Yesterday was one of the scariest days of my life. I actually have nightmares like this, so if you are afraid of heights, etc., skip this post!”
She went on to say that she decided to “face my irrational fear of heights” by taking her son on the Ferris wheel.
His son was the “first to notice that the door was open”, but as they had already left, it was “too late” to alert anyone to the situation.
“The lock is on the outside so you can’t open it from the inside and it’s on the outside so I couldn’t completely close and lock the door,” Chloe added.
She quickly moved her son to the other side of the basket where he couldn’t fall, but when they were “high up,” the door “literally opened.”
Showing a panoramic photo of Southend, Chloe added: “That’s how we had the door open the WHOLE TIME.”
“I had to keep the door closed the entire time as I tried to stop him from moving and stay calm (after crying and almost getting sick from anxiety),” she said.
She did her best not to panic about her son, but she called her mother on FaceTime to explain what was happening.
Chloe was finally able to signal to one of the ride workers what had happened, and they stopped to take her and her son off the ride.
She said they called the team leader, who apparently advised her to report the situation to customer service.
However, Chloe claimed that when she spoke to customer service, they simply apologized and provided details on how she could make a formal complaint, which she is now doing.
Captioning the video, Chloe wrote: “I can’t believe this happened.
“I’m full of anxiety, even seeing this again, my heart is pounding.
“0/10 experience, I don’t recommend it!
“I’m sad this has happened because Southend is one of my favorite places, I have so many happy childhood memories here but trying to recreate them with my son has been epic to say the least.”
Adventure Island has been contacted for comment.
“This literally turned my stomach,” one person commented on the video.
“This could have ended so badly! I’m glad you two are safe.”
“I know, thank God,” Chloe replied.
“Oh my God!!!! Didn’t they have an emergency button inside for you to press?!” someone asked.
“I’d be terrified! Well done for hanging in there!”
“Absolutely nothing,” Chloe replied.
“I was trying to get their attention, but it was too late – we were out of sight the whole way until we got back.”
