WITH bills rising ever higher, few of us can take time to spend with our loved ones.

But after watching child care costs skyrocket, one woman decided she’d rather be a stay-at-home mom and her video broke the Internet.

While most 21-year-olds are just starting university or in their first job, influencer Jasmine is busy caring for her first child.

Despite being barely in her twenties, the TikTok star loves being a mom and has gained over 55,000 likes for her videos about her daughter Elodie-Rae.

While she usually shares snippets of family life, outings and advice, the content creator has recently sparked intense debate online.

Like many parents, she and her partner Alfie were shocked by the rapid rise in childcare costs.

Instead of missing her daughter’s early years and using her entire salary to care for her children, Jasmin decided to become a stay-at-home mom.

She even made an entire TikTok about her decision, brutally telling her followers: “Putting my daughter in nursery for £80 a day to work and earn £100 a day minus lunch and petrol… to earn approximately £5 a day… No thanks.

As with his other videos, this TikTok quickly went viral and over 881,000 people viewed the short clip.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before the young mother was targeted by trolls.

One cruel called her a ‘chav’, telling Jasmine: “Appropriate chav for your comments. She gets off TikTok and takes care of her son.”

Another commented: “That’s because you have no skills or value in this world.”

Some even suggested that the young mother didn’t have the “right mindset” with her decision, despite her partner and her discussing their finances in advance.

“It’s outrageous, BUT stay in the workforce and always consider the costs shared with your partner. You need to have that mindset to make it work,” wrote a third.

Others also suggested that Jasmin was not in the right job with such a low salary.

I’m a stay-at-home mom who did 4 side hustles to see which one made the most money – I had a clear winner, but there’s a problem

In addition to the unpleasant comments, some parents were worried that little Elodie would lose socializing with other children.

“Some time needs to be spent with other children away from you. otherwise, starting school will be a huge stress for the child,” argued a fourth.

To which the young mother replied: “She spends time away from me, she also spends time with other children, daycare is not the only place for that.”

Fortunately, others have also been hit hard by rising child care costs and sympathized with the comments.

“This is the exact reason I haven’t gone back to work… My life is my children. Money isn’t everything, just having enough to live on, that’s all you need,” said a fellow mother.

Another told Jasmin: “Childcare costs £80 a day but my salary would only be £68 so I wouldn’t even earn anything.”

One single father even revealed that he had left work to look after his young children until they were in high school.

He explained: “I was given custody of my two children when they were 3 and 1 and I stopped working until they were 12 and 10 so I could watch them grow up.”

It seems that some things are more important than money.
