In the clip, she said, “We are in Matalan and I came to check if there is any age-appropriate clothing for my 10-year-old stepdaughter who is in the pre-teen era.”

The mother discovered that the clothes did not suit her daughter’s age – with clothes looking either too young or too grown up.

Looking around the section, Samantha saw a lot of different tops that she wasn’t impressed with.

Additionally, some of the tops even had cut-out details on the chest, which was also a big no-no.

As she continued to look around, she saw many t-shirts and short sets, but was surprised to see how cut the top was and how tiny the shorts were.

While it may be suitable for an older teenager, Samantha said it was not appropriate for her daughter’s age.

“Absolutely not. No way,” she continued.

Samantha managed to find a few items she liked, including a white sundress, cycling shorts and t-shirt sets, but was clearly disappointed with the overall range.

“I have no words,” she said.

“I hate to say this because this is actually one of my favorite stores for Jack, for a little boy, but for girls, this is getting a 3 out of 10 from me.”

Mom’s Situation: Choosing Family Time Over School Rules

The clip posted to his TikTok account @samanthaproudmama It soon went viral with over 350,000 views and 11,000 likes.

People were quick to share their thoughts on the outfits and in the comments.

One person wrote: “Even as a woman, it’s hard to find uncropped tops these days.”

Another commented: “My daughter is only 6 but she is so tall and wears a 10, nothing is appropriate, it is so stressful.”

How to Keep Your Kids Safe in Hot Weather

Warm weather is fabulous, a wonderful trip to the beach or spending time in the garden! However, when temperatures soar, it can become dangerous. Save The Children has compiled 10 heat safety tips to keep children safe in a heatwave.

1. Light clothing, heavy sunscreen
Choose lightweight, light-colored, breathable fabrics (like cotton) and use lots of sunscreen to protect you and your child from the heat and possible sunburn.

2. Drink lots of fluids
Remember to drink plenty of fluids, regardless of your activity level. Check your baby’s diaper for concentrated (dark-colored) urine, which could indicate dehydration.

3. Get plenty of rest
Try limiting activities. Make sure children get plenty of rest when they are active. The SNS advises “trying to stay out of the sun between 11 am and 3 pm”.

4. Keep the kids entertained
Children may become anxious or restless about being kept indoors. Plan indoor activities and games.

5. Reassure children
Children can become stressed by the heat. Remember that children take their cues from their parents and guardians, so try to remain calm and answer their questions openly and honestly. Also keep in mind normal bath and sleep schedules for your child.

6. Home Safety/Cooling Tips
During the day, keep rooms cool by closing blinds/curtains, especially in rooms facing the sun. Using a fan to circulate air in the room is beneficial. Review your child’s school’s solar policy.

7. Never leave children unsupervised in parked cars

Even in less threatening temperatures, vehicles can quickly heat up to dangerous temperatures. A child left in a car is at risk of serious heat-related illness or death, even if the windows are open.

8. Stay informed

Listen to local news and weather channels for updates related to health, safety and weather.

9. Know how to identify heat-related illnesses

Look for signs of heat-related illnesses/conditions such as heatstroke, heat exhaustion, cramping, and severe sunburn. If children experience these symptoms, seek medical assistance. Consult the SNS website for a complete list and how to remedy them.

10. Read the NHS guidance for babies

The NHS advises giving your baby a cool bath before bed and keeping sleepwear to a minimum. Your baby will sleep most comfortably at a room temperature between 16ºC and 20ºC, a nursery thermometer will help you monitor the temperature in your baby’s room.

“My pet peeve is that all the stores only sell crop tops for girls! Even for young children,” wrote a third.

Meanwhile, a fourth said: “I went to River Island the other day with my 1-year-old daughter and was MORTIFIED by the amount of crop tops there were in the store.”

“Ewww, I’m sorry, but in what world should a little girl be walking around with a crop top saying ‘iconic’ on it. What is Matalan wearing?!” claimed a fifth.

Another person added: “This is my concern about having a girl. She’s only 3 at the moment, but we still find stores with crop tops for her age.”
