I regret my 2 month old daughter’s name – it feels weird saying it out loud, I normally just refer to her as ‘baby’

A remorseful mother has spoken of her remorse for her two-month-old daughter.

Although she thought it was a good idea to draw inspiration from her own name (because, like mother, like daughter), two months later, her feelings towards the name soured.

The mother shared her baby’s name in a publish on a forum What to expect.

“Did anyone regret the name you chose for your child? What did you do to make yourself feel better? Did the feeling of regret lessen over time?” she asked.

The mother explained that she initially chose the name based on her own name, as she thought it would be cute if her daughter’s name matched hers.

“For context, my name is Gina Marie and I named my daughter Gianna Rose,” she said.

“I always thought it was a beautiful name, but now that it’s here, I’m starting to regret my choice.

“I’m not sure if it’s cute to be a compliment to my name or if it’s silly and unusual.

“I usually just refer to her as ‘baby’, I rarely refer to her by her name because I feel weird saying it out loud.”

Despite her remorse, she explained that a name change was not in question.

“Changing her name would not be an option. I wouldn’t want to be judged by outsiders,” she said.

“I know, she’s my daughter and I shouldn’t care what other people think. A part of me also thinks I would regret changing her name to something else too.”

She explained that the name was a collective suggestion from members of her community.

“I was having trouble deciding what name to choose for her before she was born, so I asked for a sign to help me choose what name would be best for her,” said the mother.

“Not long after, there were several people [who] I guessed that I would name my daughter Gianna, including my parents, my in-laws, friends and co-workers.”

The mother interpreted the hunches as the sign she was looking for.

I usually just refer to her as ‘baby’, I rarely refer to her by her name because it feels weird saying it out loud.

“How could I not take that as a definite sign to call her Gianna?” she asked.

“My mother also has the first name ‘G’, so I wanted to continue the tradition of the name ‘G’ with my daughter too, or so I thought.”

Other mothers advised her to keep the name as it might grow on her.

“I liked the name you chose. I think you should start calling your daughter that and try to get over it,” said one.

“I wouldn’t change the name. You will probably change your mind again.

“I’d just try to like it and call her by her name. It’ll grow on you.”

“Honestly, I don’t see anything strange about it. It’s close, but it’s also a different name. Gianna is beautiful!” agreed another.
