A mother of three has suggested tax incentives for larger families as a way to boost the economy.

And she thinks having more children will mean there will be more workers available to care for the elderly.

She also thinks it could solve Britain’s immigration crisis.

But she admits that most of her friends don’t want more than two children.

Posting on Mumsnet under the username WhatTodoAll, she said: “All parties will have to deal with the growing number of elderly people and the low fertility rate.

“They use this fact to justify large numbers of net migration.

“I was wondering if we as a country should actively provide economic benefits for women to have more than one child?”

She goes on to suggest that other countries offer parents financial incentives to have more than one child.

But she knows many women who say that even a child costs too much.

More than a hundred people participated in the heated debate, saying that her idea only favors the rich.

His post continued: “In some countries like Singapore, there are many economic incentives to have more than two children.

“I also have three children and I don’t know anyone in my friendship group who has more than two.”

Some critics said the idea was unfair to childless or infertile women, while others said having more children means using more public services.

Others criticized the original poster, saying few families can allow working mothers to take three periods of maternity leave without affecting their careers.

Some users suggested that it would make more sense to offer better child care for everyone.

A user called Marblessolve Everything said: “The world is overpopulated, what you are proposing will not have the impact you imagine.

“Those who are successful rarely manage to have three maternity visits without impacting their career.

“Why would society treat those who have children differently from those who don’t?”

MoonshineSon wrote: “Just allow more immigration. The world is extremely overpopulated. Why do we need superior British babies anyway?”

Another user named feelingalittlehorse added: “Good, now my taxes will also be judged on my fertility (or lack thereof)

“Good idea.

“Any tax changes for parents?

“Or is it just us women who can’t produce an adequate number of offspring to please the masses?”

I have two children – and that’s a lot, thank you!

I may be happy with a big litter later, but for now twins are enough

After my twin sons Felix and Harry were born, I remember well-meaning people cooing in their cribs and asking innocently, “Do you think there will be more?”

If I hadn’t been so exhausted, I might have found the energy to laugh out loud.

Two kids, especially if they’re close in age, is a lot of work, and I think it would take more than a tax cut to make many mothers disagree.

I understand we need more young people in our workforce, but the cost of child care makes it impossible for many families to raise more than a few children.

Most of my mom friends have two kids, and it’s the well-off people who can afford help who have three or four.

Two was certainly enough for us. This meant I only needed to take one period of maternity leave so I could return to work after a year and help cover the rising childcare costs.

Maybe when I’m older I’ll be happy to be surrounded by adult children who can take care of me for a change, but right now we simply can’t afford another baby.

Plus, now that the boys have finally discovered the beauty of having a long lie in, I can’t think of anything worse than going back to the sleepless nights and dirty diaper phase.
