A SINGLE dad has shared how he feeds his family for just £2.35, leaving many speechless.

The self-proclaimed “poor AF” dad from London, who claimed to be ‘struggling’ because of the cost of living crisis, has revealed how he makes food for his kids without having to break the bank.

Posting on social media, the content creator shared how he turned a can of chili con carne and some microwave rice into a meal for three.

The dad posted his clip online with the caption ‘Feeding my kids on a low budget’.

He then added: “Feeding my kids on a budget of £2.35 as a poor single parent.”

At the start of the short, beautifully edited video, the dad revealed he had just £2.35 to spend, as he gave his followers an up-close look at his pennies and 5p coins.

The dad then headed to Asda to do some shopping – where he packed a tin of chilli con carne, which cost him just £1.85 from the chain’s Just Essentials range.

He then got a bag of long grain micro rice, which cost just 50p – costing him £2.25 in total.

Upon arriving home, the father began to prepare dinner for his children.

He placed the canned chili in a pan, seasoned it with salt, and then added a generous knob of butter.

He put the rice in the microwave and minutes later served the quick and easy meal – a serving of chili con carne, some rice and two simple biscuits.

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @economy_tokclearly left many completely surprised as it quickly racked up a jaw-dropping 298,900 views.

But social media users were divided – while some thought the dinner looked “great”, not everyone was so complimentary.

One person said: “This looks so good.”

Another added: “Looks amazing man.”

At the same time, another person wrote: “I’d rather eat my dog’s vomit than this..”

Although one user stated, “Basically your kids are getting prison food.”

Meanwhile, others were eager to advise the man to clean his house.

A second suggested: “Clean your f***ing stove, you should be scared of poisoning your kids.”

And another agreed: “Clean the kitchen, it looks like porridge, I wouldn’t want to eat anything after seeing the state of that stove.”

Free money schemes if you’re struggling

Many of us still struggle with the high cost of living – but there is help you can get.

New or expectant parents can receive up to £442 a year to spend on food through the Healthy Start scheme.

Some new parents can receive £500 through the Sure Start Maternity Grant. The money is designed to help you cover the costs of having a child.

Councils also offer support through social assistance schemes, to help cover the costs of essential goods, from buying new furniture to food vouchers.

The amount you can get varies, but an investigation by The Sun found that struggling Brits can apply for help worth up to £1,000.

The Discretionary Housing Payment is a package of money distributed by councils to those struggling to keep a roof over their heads.

A scheme is available for those unable to cover housing costs, although the exact amount varies as each local authority distributes the money on a case-by-case basis.

Many forms of energy offer subsidies to help cash-strapped customers. The exact amount varies depending on your supplier and circumstances, but can be as much as £2,000.
