A mother responded after receiving a bill after attending a five-year-old’s birthday party with her daughter.

The birthday party was held in the back garden of the birthday girl’s house, where all the children played, ate cake and all the usual things you would expect.

But days later the mum was surprised to discover she had received a bill for £22.50 for the pleasure.

On Reddit, one of the mother’s friends explained what happened and wrote: “My friend called immediately [the birthday girl’s mum] and demanded to know what was happening.

“She said that by attending the party my friend agreed to pay for her share of the food and drinks. And then she said ‘if you hand over the invitation it will explain everything’.”

Sure enough, on the back of the invitation there was a statement explaining that all guests were required to shell out some cash for food and drinks.

The statement read: “We want to give the birthday girl the best birthday ever, so if you attend, we’d love your help paying for the delicious pizza and drinks.

“Don’t worry about paying on the big day, we’ll send you the invoice right away.”

According to the mother’s friend, the request “was printed in a very small, almost microscopic font and just a few shades darker than the invitation itself.”

“I would have assumed it was a printer’s address or brand,” she said.

After refusing to pay the fee, the mother called some of the other parents to see if they had received a bill.

“Everyone was furious. Nobody is paying,” she said.

After a few more days, the birthday girl’s mother asked why everyone was ignoring her. the billsince it was there on the invitations.

Reddit users agreed that it was strange to charge parents and children to attend a party, especially since it was in their backyard.

“That poor thing, no one will invite her to their parties, go to her parties or even go to her house to play and have dinner. This mother is deluded”, commented one person on the post.

A second agreed: “That seems really tacky of the parents.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if the girl was excluded from the invitations (in addition to no one attending her parties) due to her parents stealing money.”

Meanwhile, others were shocked that the fee was so high just for pizza and drinks.

One joked: “£22.50 for pizza and juice? Did she fly to Italy to buy it?”

And someone else suggested that parents “return an invoice for the gift.”
