CHOOSING the perfect name for your little one can be tricky, do you go the classic and traditional route or opt for something a little more unique?

Well, one couple faced backlash after revealing they planned to name their daughter after a Harry Potter character.

As any Potter fan knows, there are a lot of unusual names in the franchise, but the mom-to-be and dad-to-be decided to take it a step further with an “embarrassing” twist on a popular character’s name.

Posting in a popular Facebook group dedicated to weird and wacky baby names, one user wrote: “I met a couple who were huge Harry Potter fans and they had to be talked out of naming their firstborn daughter Dumbledore (DumbledorA!!!) ”

Not surprisingly, people had mixed feelings about the wizard-inspired name.

One commented on the post: “Honestly, James, Lilly, Harry and most of the Weasleys (excluding Percy and Ginevra, Ginny is fine) are the only acceptable names in this franchise.

“Everything else is fine for a pet, not a human child.”

But others agreed with the Potter-themed name and even confessed that they chose something similar.

“I can’t say much, a mother confessed,” we almost named our son Olivander Leviticus. We settle for Oliver Levi.”

Dumbledore is a fan-favorite character in both books and movies, but people weren’t convinced that this was a good enough reason to name their newborn after the famous wizard.

“I love Harry Potter but this is the stupidest thing I’ve seen in a long time,” one wrote.

Another joked: “Never give your child a name that starts with ‘dumb’.”

And someone else bluntly said, “NO. Holy, terrible.

“You couldn’t have done Molly, or Ginny, or Luna, or fucking HERMIONE? Dumbledore is officially the worst name here yet. CRINGE. CRINGE.

“This is ridiculous.”

Someone else added: “Damn. I hope dissuading them really worked.”

The unusual name isn’t the only one that caught the internet’s attention.

Facebook users were recently surprised to discover that a couple plans to name their son after Kesha’s popular song, Timber.

The couple also decided to change the spelling to ‘Tymber’ to make it even more unique.

The reason for the name? Because the song is ‘their song’ and that’s why they keep it in a special place, the sister explained.

“My brother didn’t want to tell me the name because he didn’t want me to steal it if I had a girl before them.

“No way would I use that name,” she shot back.

Names banned in the UK

The UK has no law restricting names, but names that contain obscenities, numerals, misleading titles or are impossible to pronounce are likely to be rejected when registering a child.
