A MUM-OF-FOUR has revealed she threw away 90% of her children’s toys.

She said the toys are just plastic that children don’t need, but some accused her of valuing her home over her children.

On social media, Alice May revealed that, by getting rid of her children’s toys, it became much easier to keep the house clean.

In a TikTok video, she said: “We spent years with our living room full of toys and baskets overflowing with plastic, until we realized that they don’t actually play with these toys.

“Yes, they can take them out of the basket and throw them across the room, but they never sit down and play with them.”

Alice said that since her children can play with each other, she doesn’t think they need toys to play with.

She added that if parents are feeling overwhelmed by the number of toys at home, they shouldn’t be afraid to get rid of them.

“They don’t need all that,” she said.

The mother revealed she no longer gets her children toys for Christmas and instead buys them books and puzzles.

She added that her children have more fun with a deck of UNO cards than with a toy.

Alice said that her children often just want to sit still next for her, and are happier with a coloring book.

“I feel like they will do anything if you are by their side.

“They just want to be around us,” they said.

Alice’s video, which was posted under the username @alicexmayx, likely touched a lot of people as it racked up more than 712,000 views on the video-sharing platform.

TikTok users rushed to the video’s comments section to share their thoughts, and opinions were divided.

Some thought Alice was being selfish, like this user who said: “Poor kids! Thinking about your house instead.”

The Style Sisters’ Top 3 Organization Tips

Charlotte Reddington and Gemma Lilly have over 15 years experience organizing and staging celebrity homes…

  • Out with the old, before in with the new

“It may seem a little cruel, but a one-in, one-out rule in your home and closet can be effective in preventing excessive accumulation of items in your home,” they said.

“It can also make you more conscious of the purchases you are making.”

“In any space, big or small – from a pantry to your makeup box – organizing items by category is the perfect way to stay super organized,” they said.

“This lets you know exactly where everything is and what you have.

“Plus, it will be very easy for the rest of the family to store and keep tidy.”

  • Storage, storage and more storage!

“Storage is key, especially if space is an issue in the home or if the room is used for items such as storing children’s toys,” they said.

“Consider decorative storage baskets, sideboards with plenty of storage space, or even a media wall or bookcases with doors.”

A second person commenting on the fact that the children’s rooms are mostly empty with no toys said: “What fun rooms.”

However, many supported Alice’s decision, with one user commenting: “I would love to do that.”

Another person said: “I think the quality of toys is more important than quantity.

A third added: “What a lovely mother doing her best to look after her family.”
