But Chloe was disgusted by her purchase on the street – an orange children’s top.

Puzzled as to why a child would need to wear a crop top, Chloe said: “I’m sorry, but for a two-year-old?

“It’s a crop top. No.”

Clearly shocked by the £5 short-sleeved top, which has a pink chiffon star design on the front, the mother added: “No, just no, why baby bumps?”

Chloe later explained: “I just don’t understand.

“They have their whole life to grow up, not at this age.”

She also revealed, “So weird for me.”

The t-shirt is available from two years old to 13 years old.

But despite Chloe’s horror, the F sizes are selling out fast, with ages seven to 12 selling out online.

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @chloemelissataylo0It clearly left many speechless as it quickly racked up over 7,000 views in just 17 hours.

Reasons to buy supermarket fashion

When looking for new pieces to add to your seasonal wardrobe or update basics, there’s no need to spend hours wandering around clothing stores or browsing online. Just grab a dress or two along with your fruits and vegetables…

They are convenient – You are likely to visit your supermarket more often than a shopping center or high street.

It’s affordable – From basics to fashion-forward pieces, supermarkets are paving the way for budget-friendly fashion that doesn’t look cheap.

They are more fashionable than you think – With a customer database larger than the average high street store, stores such as ASDA, Sainsbury’s and Tesco are able to serve markets and forecast trends in many more areas than just food supply.

They fit well – Fits and lengths often come with a little more modesty in mind. The fabrics also tend to be highly practical – think plenty of 100% cotton that can be thrown into the washing machine without thinking.

Despite this, shoppers have recently been praising Sainsbury’s children’s clothing, and many have been sent into a frenzy after discovering that a “Holy Grail” dress comes in a mini-me version for their little ones too.

The £28 monochrome maxi dress that left shoppers “in a pinch” sent mums wild when they discovered it was also available for £16 in a matching children’s version.

Is supermarket fashion the new high street?

Deputy Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in:

Supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, when you go to do your weekly food shopping, you can also choose from a selection of stylish, purse-friendly pieces for the whole family.

Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent rise for the quarter thanks to “strong growth in clothing” and M&S has claimed the title of number one womenswear destination on the high street.

Asda’s clothing line George made £1.5m for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury’s clothes were sold at full price rather than discounted, and sales of Nutmeg at Morrisons also rose by 2 percent last year.

So what is it about grocery fashion that is becoming so successful?

Not only are the clothes really affordable, they’re also good quality – many of them being part of programs like the Better Cotton Initiative.

They often stick to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year.

Plus, because they buy so much inventory, they can deliver parts quickly and buy cheaper because of volumes.

A third added: “I think we should get matching dresses for the holiday.”

“Me and [my little girl] I need the dresses”, insisted a fourth.

The monochromatic kukkia dresses are part of Tu Clothing’s collaboration with Scion, a British brand that playfully mixes bold prints and confident colors with Scandinavian influences.

The supermarket giant promises that the collab “combines the expertise of our design team, exploring Scion’s iconic print portfolio, bringing together joy energy to our clothing line.”
