A FATHER has revealed he regrets the name he gave his daughter and would be happy if she decided to change it.

He said that when he was younger he was a “hippie hippie” who thought the name was “cool and unique.”

However, now that he is older, he regrets the name.

On Reddit, the father explained: “My hippie mom and I named our son Eleven.

“This was before Stranger Things came out.

“We thought it was mystical and beautiful and cool and unique and we were annoying hippie hippies.”

The father said his daughter is already a teenager and still goes by the name Eleven, although he always assumed she would want to change.

He said his daughter jokes that at least no one will forget her name.

Eleven is the name of the main character in the Netflix sci-fi series Stranger Things.

In the series, the girl is called Eleven, as that is the number that is tattooed on her wrist when she is taken from her family and taken to live in a laboratory, while scientific experiments are carried out on her.

Luckily, the dad said his daughter loves Stranger Things, but he still wishes he had chosen a different name for her.

I named my baby after a wild dog – people openly torment me and the nurses at the hospital laughed, it really suits her

He said: “Sometimes I feel bad and I am constantly asked what is the problem with her name.

“It’s definitely something I regret now, but I also love my daughter, and her weird name is part of her story.

“I won’t be mad if she starts calling herself Elle or something.”

The post was flooded with comments from social media users and opinions about the name were divided.

Names banned in the UK

The UK has no law restricting names, but names that contain obscenities, numerals, misleading titles or are impossible to pronounce are likely to be rejected when registering a child.

  • Hitler
  • Monkey
  • Cyanide
  • Martian
  • akuma
  • food trailer
  • On its own

One person said: “Naming a child is not like creating a fictional character.

“It’s unfair to give a child an intentionally wacky name because you want to provoke reactions from strangers.”

Another person said: “Why would you give your child a name if you think they would want to change it?”

A third chimed in: “I definitely thought of Stranger Things straight away, but I also genuinely like the sound of it.”

A fourth added: “Evelyn would be a really easy name change from Eleven. Literally just swapping the L and V sounds.”
