It can be difficult to justify the costs of an extravagant children’s birthday party, especially in the current economic climate.
Luckily, a self-proclaimed bargain-hunting mom from Scotland has revealed her secret to throwing a party that “feels expensive” without breaking the bank.
Kimberly Lucaswho now lives in Australia, managed to throw an epix mermaid themed birthday party for her daughter Isla’s fourth birthday for just £50.
The experienced mum said: “I’m a very creative person and I love challenges.
“Your previous birthdays have always been amazing and I have always done them on budget.”
“[This year] Isla requested a Little Mermaid themed party and I thought Temu would be the best place to buy all my party supplies, especially when you’re only going to use them once.
“I’m a bargain hunter and everything is very cheap.”
Kimberley was able to make personal mermaid favor boxes for guests, which cost £4.16 for a pack of 5, compared to an online party supplies website selling the same item for £8.60 plus shipping costs.
But Kimberley’s real purchase was her daughter’s mermaid party dress, which cost just £4.39.
“That’s not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen in your life.
“I would buy this again. I saw some at TK Maxx that were lovely but were around £18 ($35 AUD).”
Kim said the quality of the dress is so good that her daughter still wears it almost a year later.
In addition to the dress, the quality of the aluminum balloons and paper lanterns surprised her.
The similarity to the photos online and the compliments it received from guests made the price even more worthwhile at just £3.15 each.
Kimberley has now encouraged other parents to research how to create lasting memories on a budget – and she’s already using Temu to plan her daughter’s 5th birthday party.
But she encouraged bargain hunters to spend time reading reviews and keeping an eye out for local discount codes to further reduce the cost.
She added: “Shopping on Temu allows me to make the party more personal as I have access to many more items that you wouldn’t otherwise find in retail stores.
“This has definitely allowed me to feel like I can create an ‘expensive party’ at an affordable price, which allows me to spend our money on other things like family outings and experiences.
“I like hosting parties, so shopping on Temu also allows me to plan more events and be as creative as I want, as I can find almost anything with any theme on the site.”
