A PLANE passenger has sparked fierce debate after refusing to give up her first class seat so a six-year-old boy could enjoy the flight alongside his mother.

The anonymous 21-year-old woman took to Reddit to share the encounter in the popular thread Am I The A** Hole.

The passenger explained that she was flying with her 27-year-old boyfriend from North America to Central Asia when a flight attendant approached her and asked if she should change seats so that a six-year-old boy could join his mother in the flight. first class. a ”booking error”.

She wrote in the post: “A few weeks ago, my boyfriend surprised me with a first class ticket for a long-haul flight.

”He’s doing well in his career and wanted to treat me, and I was really excited because I’d never flown first class before.”

She continued: “We had two 12-hour connecting flights and the airline we used has a very highly rated first class for these long flights.”

After boarding the flight, the woman felt “a little overwhelmed by luxury” as she grew up in the “lower middle class” and “had never flown higher than the cheapest seats on a plane before.” ”.

About 20 minutes after the plane took off, a flight attendant approached her accompanied by a woman and a boy, who she estimated to be around six years old.

At that point, the woman explained that she had booked a first class ticket for her and her son – however, due to a booking error, he disembarked in economy class.

“She asked if I would be willing to swap seats with her son so he could experience first class too,” the amazed 21-year-old revealed.

The plane passenger said she felt overwhelmed – although she understood “that it was disappointing for the child”, she did not insist on giving up the seat, as it was a gift from her partner.

”I politely declined and explained that it was my first time in first class and that I wanted to try it out.”

Major airline unveils new economy seats – with more padding and neck headrest

Despite her best efforts, the mother argued and insisted that “her son would appreciate it more” and that it was “unfair” as she was not the one who bought the ticket.

As revealed by the young woman, the flight attendant also seemed to be on her mother’s side, which implies that she “should think about being more understanding”.

A minute later, her boyfriend also got involved, saying that he had purchased the tickets, “that he was a platinum member of the airline and that he usually books all of his company’s business travel flights with the airline, and if she put me for the economy, he would take his business elsewhere”.

”’Eventually, the woman returned to business class with her son.

Airlines have the right to change your seat without prior notice

As much as this may ruin your holiday, airlines have the right to change your seat without notice.

As explained by experts from Travel and Leisure”the airline is only obliged to take you from point A to point B”.

This means that all other items, such as overhead bin space, reserved seats, baggage allowance, as well as food and beverage service, “are at the discretion of the airline”.

”Because you’re not buying a real seat – you’re buying transportation.”

What to do when an airline changes your seat?

When you are asked to change seats, “it is usually to help families sit together, allow caregivers to sit next to patients, or accommodate an aviation marshal or other airline employee.”

Other reasons also include helping to redistribute the weight balance of the aircraft, especially on smaller planes.

If this is the case, it’s best to be polite – and the flight attendant may thank you for your availability with a free snack and bottles of wine.

”But throughout the flight, I could feel the flight attendant looking at me every time she passed by.”

Despite feeling she had done nothing wrong, the woman – who then shared the incident with her friends – was met with criticism from her friends.

In their eyes, she should have given up her first class seat, “saying it would have been the kindest thing to do.”

The post was flooded with dozens of comments — and luckily for the 21-year-old, the majority of Redditors were on her side.

”This is a difficult passage. NTA. My reservation error**. That mother was trying to get a first class seat at economical prices. Strange that the flight attendant was on their side. They know better,” wrote one.

Another agreed: ”NTA?? I have no idea why they were so adamant about their change.

”It wasn’t YOUR fault they had a BOOKING ERROR.

”Your boyfriend paid for this service for you to enjoy and you have every right.

”That woman didn’t pay for her seat, so if she has a problem, she needs to take it to the airline instead of trying to make you feel guilty and get you to give up your seat for a child who isn’t a problem. your.’ ‘
