A mother was left outraged after seeing nurses at her son’s nursery sipping wine at lunch.

However, people were divided on the issue, with some suggesting the mother should report the team, and others claiming they did nothing wrong.

Taking to Mumsnet, the upset mum said she spotted nursery staff when she went out for lunch at a pub with her sister.

She said: “In the bar I saw two nurses from my son’s nursery having lunch and they each had a glass of wine.

“There were also two empty glasses on the table, but they could have been from previous customers.”

She continued: “I wasn’t happy, but my sister said it’s lunch time and they don’t get paid for it.

“She added that two glasses won’t make a difference.”

The woman said nursery staff spotted her and seemed “embarrassed”.

However, this meant she couldn’t report them anonymously.

She added: “I’m afraid that if I say something they will treat my son differently.

“Am I exaggerating when I think they shouldn’t drink while caring for children?”

The post was flooded with responses from other mothers and opinions were divided.

Some felt the nursery staff’s actions were wrong, such as one person who said: “I wouldn’t be happy and yes, I would report it.

“Two large glasses puts them over the limit for drunk driving.”

Another person said: “This is completely inappropriate and I would report it.

School rules + laws in the UK

  • Is online school legal in UK?
  • Who is entitled to free school meals?
  • At what age should my child start daycare?
  • What is an EHCP and what are the 5 steps?

“It is illegal to work in a daycare center under the influence of alcohol.

“If someone is careless enough to break the law at lunch, I wouldn’t want them looking after my kids.”

A third person said: “They absolutely should not be drinking alcohol when looking after their children afterwards.

“This is outrageous and I would report them immediately.”

However, others claimed that the team members did nothing wrong.

One person said: “What’s wrong with daycare workers having a drink at the bar for lunch?

“Nothing, as long as they’re not intoxicated.”

A second person said: “Drinking a glass of wine is fine.

“It’s unpaid lunch time, as long as they can do their work when they get back to work, where’s the problem?”
