A WOMAN who became a teenage mother has revealed some of the stigmas she and her son faced.
Cierra Norris from the US took to social media to let people know she proved the haters wrong.
The now 33-year-old fought back by proving that being a teenage mother didn’t mean her life or aspirations were over.
Cierra had her son at 16, she revealed, but that didn’t stop her from pursuing her dream career.
In a recent clip on social media, she said: “POV: You had it at 16; everyone excluded you.”
In the video, she and her son were in a restaurant as they had an adorable hug and she played with his hair.
But she was able to defy the path people laid out for her, becoming one of Chicago’s top criminal defense lawyers.
She continued: “I read a statistic when I was 16 and pregnant that said he had a 90% chance of going to prison because he was the product of a teenage black single mother.
“And well, I said, ‘cool, but you MUST get past me’ – let the odds be forever in your favor, b***h.”
The statistic led the mother to pursue a career as a lawyer, not only to provide better opportunities for her son, but also to make a positive impact on society.
She worked several waitressing jobs so she could study while caring for her son.
Cierra opened her own law firm at just 27 years old, Cnnorrislawspecializing in civil rights cases.
The clip has since gone viral on her TikTok account @lawyercierranorris with more than 498 thousand views and 59 thousand likes.
People were quick to praise the mother in the comments section of the post.
One person wrote: “I love this so much.. I was a teenage mother with a daughter, now she is studying law and I also have a son who fights for our country!! so proud!!”
Another commented: “As a woman who had a child at 17 and is now 37 and in school trying to be a lawyer… you are an inspiration.”
