BEING a mother is not easy, especially when you are only 13 and face many more barriers.

That’s what happened to Michele Dalton, based in the USA, who shares her story online with her 85 thousand followers.

The mother of four became pregnant with her first daughter, Alecia, at 12 and gave birth at 13.

Now 36 years old, she is the grandmother of two girls, the oldest of whom is 23 years old.

In one of their recent videos, the pair take part in the ‘of course’ trend, which sees people list stereotypes and tropes they fall into because of their situation.

“I had her when I was 13, of course people say I should have given her to someone else to raise,” Michele start.

“She had me when she was 13, so of course when I tell people how old my mother is, they say, ‘there’s no way’,” says her daughter.

She adds: “She had me at 13, of course everyone thinks she’s my sister.”

Elsewhere in the clip, she says she raised Alecia without her mother or father’s help and admits it was difficult, but “we managed to get through it.”

In the comments, people were quick to praise Michele for persevering despite their unusual family dynamics.

“Congratulations on your beautiful family,” one person wrote.

Another commented: “You did it girl [red heart emoji]. Good job [two pink hearts emoji].”

A third wrote: “I love this! I had my son at 15 and we are proving people wrong too!!”

“I’m proud of you! I can’t imagine it was easy, but you did it [red heart emoji]”, said another person.

In another video in the same style, she tells viewers: “I still have to raise people’s jaws when they find out she’s my daughter.”

Conception rate in under-18s has declined considerably since 2007, reports Nuffield Trust.

Between 2007 and 2021, the under-18 conception rate in England and Wales fell by 68%, from 42 per 1,000 women to 13 per 1,000 women.

This resulted in 13,131 under-18 conceptions in England and Wales in 2021.

the teen mom also says that when Alecia was finishing high school, her youngest son was just starting.

Michele added that her sisters became aunts before they were even teenagers

Speaking about her difficulties, Michele said: “Everything you do in your life will be judged by someone.

“If I hadn’t kept my baby at 13, I wouldn’t be living my best life with my 23-year-old daughter and her two babies.

“Teen moms can do this.”
