I gave my daughter a beautiful name – people say it’s ‘pretty on paper’ but an ‘immediate no’ when you say it out loud

SOME people spend years choosing the perfect name for their future children, wanting to make sure it’s something they love forever.

But a dad has revealed his daughter’s name reminded him of something else – and now he can’t stop hearing it.

Although the couple chose a relatively common name for their daughter, it was the combination of that name and her middle name that they can’t get over.

He took to Reddit to explain and wrote, “We love the name ‘Aurora Sara,’ where Aurora is her first name and Sara (pronounced ‘sawr-uh’) is her middle name.”

The father explained that he and his partner wanted an American-sounding first name and a Turkish middle name for the little one.

And even though the couple was more than happy with their choices, the father soon realized that the names sounded a little funny when said together.

He said: “I noticed that depending on how you pronounce the first and middle names together, it sounds like a type of dinosaur, like ‘Aurorasaurus’ or ‘Aurorasar’.

“Am I overthinking it or should we think of a different first/middle name?”

“My wife was irritated when I brought this up to her, although it may have had something to do with the fact that I started imitating the Jurassic Park theme after saying ‘Aurorasaurus,’” he continued.

But it turns out that the father wasn’t the only one who thought the combination of names sounded like a dinosaur.

“You needed a minute to think about it. Your son’s classmates will certainly surpass you with this and other names”, said one of them, warning the father.

Another agreed that the names were “beautiful” on their own, but sounded “clumsy as hell together, even if they don’t make her sound like a dinosaur, which they absolutely do.”

“You can’t do this to your child, I beg you to change this, it sounds like a disease too,” someone interrupted.

But some people thought the father was overthinking the whole thing.

“No, it’s not tragic,” said one of them, “I really like Aurora.

“Also, very few people end up using their middle names outside of official documents so that Arorasauras can remain a little family Easter egg.”

“It’s not that bad, I would never have done it so I don’t see why others would,” said another.

But that’s not the only baby name that has caused controversy online recently. A mother came under fire recently after it was revealed she named her baby after a celebrity and a brand of biscuits.

On Reddit, the woman explained that her mother came up with an original name for her sister, combining the name of her favorite actress and a brand of cheese snacks.

The woman revealed: “My mom named my sister after Cheez-Its and a celebrity.

“My sister’s name is Cheezka.

“She was named after an actress who goes by ‘Francesca’ and because my mom’s friend gave her a box of Cheez-Its as a baby shower gift.”

Cheez-Its is a brand of American cheese-flavored crackers.

The post was flooded with responses from Reddit users, many of whom were shocked by the unique name.

One person said: “Literally one of the worst names I’ve heard in my life.”

Are unique baby names worth it?

The Fabulous deputy editor reveals the turmoil she faced with her own name growing up.

When I was a kid, all I wanted was one of those personalized keychains with my name on it.

But no joy, the closest I could find was Rosie, Joseph (not very good for a girl) and Joanne.

Josie is short for Josephine, which is a French name, and I managed to reach my 20s without ever meeting anyone who shared it.

When I try to introduce myself to people, I get all sorts of random things – like Tracey and Stacey – which can be really annoying.

Although I’ve come into contact with a few Josies over the past year – there seem to be a few of us around my age – it’s still a much rarer name than most of my friends.

Overall I don’t mind it, at least it’s not rude or poorly written.

And that means I can get away with ‘doing a Cheryl’ and just referring to myself as Josie.

I’m getting married this year and some friends are shocked that I’m changing my surname, as it’s not seen as very cool or feminist to do so these days, but I explain to them that I’m not as attached to Griffiths as I always said’ hi, it’s Josie’ when calling a friend.

I think it’s good to be unique and I will definitely try to replicate that when naming my own children.

It’s the rude names you have to watch out for, so after nine years as a lifestyle journalist, I’ll definitely avoid them.
