A mother has revealed how shocked she was after a mother WhatsApped her an invoice for her son’s birthday party.

The mother of two has paid for her children’s birthday parties in the past.

But now she’s left confused after another mother charged her for her children to attend their birthday party.

The mother, who goes by the name ‘let’s just be real’ on TikTok, calculated that she would spend around £100 for her children to attend this particular party.

She decided to use TikTok to ask other parents their opinion, sharing a video of herself talking about the situation.

The mother says: “I’m quite an extravagant mother, I don’t expect all parents to be extravagant like me, but whenever I have an activity-based birthday party, I obviously always pay for all the kids.

“This morning I received a notification on WhatsApp from a particular father, her son always comes to my daughters’ birthdays, and her son always comes with his brother because that’s the dynamic and the setup they have.

“I always had the illusion that I should pay for these two children.

“Today this mother sent me the invitation and in this invitation she informed us that the price of the party would be £21 per child and that we must all transfer this £21 to her.

“I feel like the rug has been pulled out from under me because if I had known, I would have saved a thousand dollars on every birthday party.

Why this mother charges her daughter rent – and it’s genius!

“But it was at this part that I started to feel uncomfortable and she needs to have some etiquette and decorum.

“She then sends us a birthday wish list, with wishes for birthday gifts.”

The mother then explained that she asked the other parent for her account details as she wanted her “daughter to go” as her daughter also wanted to attend.

She then explained that after the account details were sent, the mother sent a wish list of gifts costing between £30 and £40.

The mother also pointed out that this particular father never showed up to his son’s birthday party with a card or gift.

She continues: “At the moment, going to your child’s birthday costs £100.

What is the etiquette regarding who pays for parties?

The label guy” Jay Remer says: “If you are going to host, you are responsible for paying. If you’re not willing to pay, you’re an organizer, whether for yourself or someone else,” he says.

“If you were invited to such a party and there was no mention of the Dutch gift or ticket price, so to speak, then you should rightly assume that the host is covering all expenses.”

“Please explain the rules. Because the truth is, I’m not paying for every child on my son’s birthday.

“I can spread that money out over the year and then I can pay for them to go to everyone’s birthday.

“But I’m not going to pay for your kid to come and have fun, and then when it’s my turn, the rules won’t be reciprocated.

“Then let me know the rules. One thing that cannot be enforced is a rule for me and a rule for you.”

The post has since gone viral, with over 115.7K views, and many people have rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts.

“My problem is if you CAN’T pay for your child’s birthday party, then DON’T have it,” one expressed.

“If you choose to have a party for your child, you pay!! If you can’t afford it, just take some kids home for tea or even have a picnic in the park,” added another.

“I’ve never heard of paying for your kids to go to their friends’ birthday parties, that’s crazy,” said a third.

While a fourth chimed in saying: “No, she’s a slut, normal parents pay for the party and the guests show up with a gift or a bit of money on a card, so it works out anyway.”

Another parent added: “I was shocked when one of my son’s friends brought his brothers with him, both expecting a party bag and a cake… three kids, no cards, no gifts… no message saying ‘the money It’s tight, I’m sorry.

“I don’t have money for birthday parties, I have four children. I can’t pay for all of your friends to sign up, so I just don’t have one,” one parent added.

“I would never expect anyone to contribute to my son’s party!” one mother said.
