A WOMAN has revealed her parents don’t like the gender-neutral name she chose for her son.

The pregnant woman said she told her father the name she had chosen and was shocked when he called it “terrible” and “horrible”.

Heartbroken by the situation, the mother-to-be took to social media to share her nickname dilemma with others.

Posting on Reddit, on BabyBumps Threadthe woman titled her post ‘Parents don’t like their baby’s name.’

Posting under the username @gillispieme, the anonymous woman wrote: “I’m mainly looking for some support and I’m curious to hear from others who may have gone through something similar.

“I’m 27 weeks pregnant and I had a very happy and sweet conversation on the phone with my dad last night.

“I mentioned that we have a new name we like for the baby and then I told him the name.”

The pregnant woman shared: “Name’s Bennett – planning to name him Ben (if it’s a boy).”

She then revealed: “He immediately viscerally reacted negatively, saying ‘oh God, this is horrible!’

“And then I replied ‘Dad! We like it…’ and he continued in the same shocked and upset voice ‘that’s a terrible name, I’m sorry.’

“I immediately started crying. He tried to backtrack and apologized, saying it was up to us what we chose.

“But it felt like the moment had been ruined.”

The pregnant woman explained that her father’s reaction left her devastated, as she continued: “I’m not sure if I’m just hormonal, but this interaction left my heart hurting more than I expected.”

She then asked other parents: “Have other parents rejected names? How did you deal with this?

“I know at the end of the day it doesn’t matter if we like the name, but Ouch.”

SUPPORT SOCIAL MEDIA USERS

Reddit users were surprised by the woman’s plight and many took to the comments to share their thoughts.

While many emphasized the importance of not telling people their babies’ names, others made a point of supporting the woman.

One person said: “Don’t share names with anyone anymore. Everyone always has their opinion, but it doesn’t matter.”

Another added: “Don’t share names until the baby is born. That’s what we planned.

“Other people’s opinions don’t matter. What matters is that you like it.”

The struggle to choose a baby name

CHLOE Morgan, senior writer at Fabulous, revealed her dilemma when choosing a name for her baby…

At 35 weeks pregnant, by far the trickiest part of pregnancy for me over the last few months (minus the insomnia and countless nighttime breaks!) has been trying to decide on the baby’s name.
The dilemmas are endless…
My partner and I had a private exam to find out the sex as early as possible – partly because we thought it would make naming babies so much easier because we would only have to create a list of names for one gender instead of two.
How wrong we were…
I was absolutely thrilled to learn I was expecting the girl I’d always dreamed of, but being one of the last friends to get pregnant, I’ve had countless conversations over the years with excited friends discussing their top baby names. …something I wish I could go back in time and not hear.
With every friend mentioning at least 10 possible nicknames, I can’t help but feel that several are now off-limits, even though I know it’s something none of them would mind in the slightest – it’s a total turn-off for me!
The debate comes up again and again on social media forums – can you choose the same name that was a “potential” for a friend’s baby?
It’s a very divisive subject and opinions are always mixed… and I don’t want to be THAT person.
While some will argue that there are thousands of other names to choose from, others will say that you need to choose YOUR favorite… after all, there is no guarantee that this person will have another child.
Then there’s also the matter of finding a name you love… only to look it up online and read one negative review among hundreds of positive ones that you just can’t get rid of.
I made this same mistake when I fell in love with a certain name (I won’t reveal it because I don’t want to ruin it for others!)…only to have someone point out that it is constantly autocorrected on a phone to something quite rude. So, we went back to the drawing board.
There are only five weeks left and it looks like our little one will be known as ‘baby gal’ for a while longer!

A third wrote: “Sorry your dad had such a bad reaction! This is shit.

While someone else commented: I’m sorry this happened. That sounds stressful!

It’s a beautiful name, they will learn to love it

Reddit User

Meanwhile, another user shared: “It’s normal to want people to like your name. But they are from a different era and have completely different tastes, I’m sure.

“If they make any more negative comments, just say ‘too bad’.”

Not only that, but other Reddit users were quick to praise the woman’s baby name.

A father smiled: “I quickly scrolled to see the name, that’s my son’s name. If you want my biased opinion, it’s a great name.”

A second chimed in: “It’s a beautiful name, they’ll learn to love it.”
